Tottenham striker Son Heung-min became the latest high-profile victim of abuse on social media following his team’s win over the Hammers on Sunday.

Spurs striker Son scored the second goal in his side’s 2-0 London derby win over the Hammers on Sunday, but it later emerged that the South Korean had been the target of disgusting racist abuse online .

And it can reveal that Brady, in a joint capacity as a member of the House of Lords and a football pundit, was a key delegate on a recent conference call meant to discuss how best to deliver the new charter.

Brady has a 30-year history in professional soccer and Whitehall has identified his experience as a valuable asset as they seek to pass new laws.

In fact, sources have indicated that the government is willing to continue using Brady’s experience in the hope that the bill can be enforced by 2024.

While the government acknowledges that the online safety bill will have a much broader societal impact than football, there is recognition that the national sport, given the worrying trend of abuse of footballers, should be a key influence. to shape new laws in the future.

West Ham, which has taken a zero tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination, actively supports the online safety bill, in line with the club’s key objectives as a leader in equity in the Premier League.

They are the latest in a recent series of troubling examples of gamers being racially taunted online.

Earlier this month, Birmingham teammates Troy Deeney and Neil Etheridge came under attack, while Brentford striker Ivan Toney was also subjected to racist abuse following his team’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

“We are upset to hear reports of online abuse directed at Heung-Min Son after Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League match against West Ham on Sunday,” a Kick It Out statement read on Monday.

‘Seven days earlier, Brentford striker Ivan Toney was racially abused on social media; he now he is Heung-Min Son.

Both have been attacked in the past. The longer it takes for social media companies to take action or the government to pass the online safety bill, the more players will be abused.

‘Are players expected to take the abuse while we wait for the reform? Players shouldn’t be victims, they need better online protection and that’s why the change needs to come quickly.

“We will continue to work tirelessly with our partners across the game to ensure that those responsible for perpetrating discriminatory abuses face the most serious consequences possible for their actions.”

Tottenham have also called on social media companies and the authorities to take action.
