One dead after a large fire broke out at a unit complex in Sydney following a huge explosion, with more than 30 people evacuated and a number treated by paramedics.

A massive fire has broken out in a unit complex with one person dead and several residents evacuated after becoming trapped in the building.
The fire broke out following an explosion on the lower floor of the complex on Young Street in Croydon, Sydney’s inner west, at 5:45am on Monday.
Six fire trucks and around 30 firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Several residents were trapped on the third floor of the complex as smoke billowed throughout the building.
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson told the Daily Mail that Australian firefighters managed to evacuate residents after arriving on the scene.
“Firefighters were faced with a fierce fire in the ground floor unit, with smoke penetrating into the upper levels,” they said.
Evacuated residents await evaluation by paramedics.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and authorities have launched an investigation.
