- It will be a big blow for Tuilagi, having lost against Scotland and Italy.
Sale Sharks’ Manu Tuilagi was handed a red for leading with an elbow against Northampton Saints on Saturday.
With the Sharks leading 5-0 in the 13th minute, the 31-year-old pounced on Tommy Freeman using his elbow in an attempt to score a try.
The match was stopped for a few seconds and following a video review by referee Ian Tempest and TMO Claire Hodnett, Tuilagi was sent off.
BT Sport pundit Austin Healey said: ‘My God. That’s not good. It is not the arm that he carries, that is a red card. It actually explodes on him. It’s a red card, nothing more.
The dismissal will see Tuilagi miss out on England’s trip to Wales in the Six Nations next weekend.

The center was hoping to break into Steve Borthwick’s team after losing to Scotland and Italy.
Rugby sales director Alex Sanderson revealed that Tuilagi was seething about his situation in England ahead of the match.
‘Manu is all smiles, but underneath I feel that he is simmering and I don’t select him. I would say he has a point to prove,’ he said.
