Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck: Relationship experts weigh in on matching tattoos after Grammy fight

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have embarked on a rite of passage that many couples have done before them by getting matching tattoos.
Following their public fight at the Grammys, the 53-year-old singer shared on Valentine’s Day that she and Ben, 50, had put on complementary ink to immortalize their love.
Now DailyMail.com has asked two relationship experts to weigh in on the Hollywood couple’s act of commitment and have revealed why Bennifer should have waited longer before inking their bodies – and why the new additions could also help them get over the hard times.
Megan Weks, Certified Relationship Expert and Creator of the funnelhe told DailyMail.com he wasn’t against couples getting a tattoo to “represent their love and commitment”, but that’s because the laser removal technology was “quite effective”.

The couple rekindled their romance after nearly 20 years in 2021 after Jennifer split from Alex Rodriguez.

‘One of the main reasons why couples break up is due to a lack of commitment, so the act of getting tattooed will increase the internal conflict they face when they feel the need to separate because they have declared their love on their bodies.
“This can help the couple continue to push toward resolution during difficult times.”
But Megan said she would have liked to see JLo and Ben not get tattooed.
‘Jen and Ben just rekindled [their romance] in May 2020, less than three years ago. I would have preferred to see them get tattooed after more than four years of getting back together,” she said.
“After about four years in a relationship, the dopamine subsides and the attraction subsides. If things go well, it is replaced by the hormones oxytocin and vasopressin, which create the desire to bond and move toward a deeper commitment.
“Often when dopamine drops, couples don’t have that chemical-induced euphoria to even out their differences.
“Because Jen is historically the queen of relationships, I would have liked to see her take her time before getting the ink, but what the heck, you only live once.”
Megan added that she was supporting the couple.
Now DailyMail.com has asked two relationship experts, Amy Chan and Megan Weks, to weigh in on the Hollywood couple’s act of commitment.
They think that Jennifer and Ben should have waited longer before getting their complementary ink.
“I hope this lasts forever as I know she believes in marriage and love and I would love to see them happily ever after,” the expert said.
Another relationship expert, Amy Chan, founder of break traininghe agreed that the couple should have waited longer.
‘Matching tattoos are romantic, until they’re not. Attractiveness is signifying the meaning and permanence of the relationship. But there are other less regrettable ways to express your love,” he told DailyMail.com. “When you’re high on the chemicals of love, dopamine and oxytocin in the first two years of a relationship, it might seem like a great idea. But the reality is that even the happiest couples can break up.
“If a couple insists on getting matching tattoos, I recommend that they give each other a waiting period. Ideally, 18 months, as research shows that is about the time when the first chemicals of romantic love start to fade and the body returns to balance. After all, what’s 18 months if you’re going to be together forever?’
The couple pictured dating for the first time in 2002 on the set of Jennifer’s music video for Jenny From The Block.
The couple met on the set of Gigli in 2001 and began dating soon after. They sadly broke off their engagement in 2004, but resumed their romance almost 20 years later in 2021.
In her Valentine’s Day post, the Out Of Sight star wrote that the ink was symbolic of their ‘Engagement,’ adding an infinity symbol to show their love was everlasting.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, my love,” she continued, before telling her fans that more updates on the romantic holiday would follow in her newsletter.
She included several flashback photos of the lovebirds from her first relationship, including references to both her story and her upcoming album in her hashtags: ‘#CommitmentIsSexy,’ ‘#ThisIsUsThen,’ ‘#ThisIsUsNow,’ and ‘#ThisIsMeNow.’
Jennifer started with a photo of her tattoo, which was located on the side of her ribcage, just below her bust, which was covered in a very short white T-shirt that also showed off her rock-hard abs.
The design appeared to feature an infinity symbol with ‘Jennifer’ and ‘Ben’ written on the delicate loops to signify they were together forever.
An arrow, presumably one from Cupid, pierced the figure. There also appeared to be additional design or text in the lower left corner of the tattoo, though the glow from his transparent protective bandage obscured this.
Ben’s tattoo design was similar, though not identical. His had two intersecting arrows that appeared to be tied in the center with a string, and the couple’s initials were located between the arrows.
Its extreme close-up made it harder to tell the exact location, even though it appeared to be similarly positioned.
