What Meghan Markle wrote about her parents Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland on her blog The Tig

She is believed to still be estranged from her father, Thomas Markle, but a resurfaced blog post from the Duchess of Sussex’s now-defunct website The Tig has revealed her affection for her “working dad” before he was banned from her life.

Meghan Markle, 41, posted an effusive tribute to her parents for Father’s Day in June 2014, praising “the blood, sweat and tears this man invested in my future so I could grow up and have so much”.

But it wasn’t just her father who was applauded on her lifestyle website; Prince Harry’s wife celebrated her “free-spirited” mother, Doria Ragland, in a post shared the previous month.

US-based mother-of-two Meghan and Doria continue to share a close relationship, with the father appearing in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix documentary in December.

On The Tig, Meghan thanked her mother “for all the lessons, for all the love.” For you’. Here, FEMAIL takes a look at the times the Duchess mentioned her parents on her website after her blog posts resurfaced.

MEGHAN’S ‘WORKING DAD’

For Father’s Day in June 2014, Meghan dedicated a post to her father, retired Hollywood lighting director Thomas Markle, 78.

She called him “thoughtful, inspiring, hard-working” and praised him for the “blood, sweat and tears of this man (who came from such a young age in a small Pennsylvania town where Christmas stockings were filled with oranges and dinners it was potatoes and spam ) invested in my future so that I could grow up and have as much.’

The Duchess recalled that her father “religiously” took her to his dance classes every Saturday morning, despite working more than 75 hours a week.

She also noted his determination to light up his high school musicals, as well as the fishing trips the duo would enjoy, and the lessons he taught her, including writing thank-you notes and always being early for occasions.

Meghan explained that her father also helped her travel from audition to audition when she was trying to become an actress.

Fast forward to Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding on Saturday, May 19, 2018, though, and the former actress was walked down the aisle by King Charles, then-Prince of Wales, instead of her father.

Markle did not attend the couple’s historic nuptials at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor after suffering two heart attacks in California in the preceding weeks.

She blamed them on the stress she suffered after posing for paparazzi photos to enhance her image.

He has been separated from his daughter ever since and has never met his son-in-law, Prince Harry, nor his grandchildren Archie, three, Lilibet, one.

THE LESSONS OF LIFE THAT HIS MOTHER TAUGHT HIM

Meghan, who is known to be close with Doria, shared the life lessons her mother taught her in a new blog post from The Tig in May 2014.

The Duchess explained how she finally understood all the moments when her father, 66, who said he was a “free spirit”, was trying to keep her safe, or to appreciate the outdoors or learn history.

She mentioned jogging together, enjoying after school bike rides, cooking together, and vacationing in Oaxaca, Mexico, and recalled visiting her grandmothers with her mother.

Meghan wrote: ‘She was keeping me safe. She was teaching me to take care of my body. She was introducing me to history and fostering a love of being outdoors.

‘She was planting the seed for me to become a foodie. She was showing me how to be a daughter, not just now, but for when she turned me into that grown woman. For now. And in thirty years. she loved me. So tight.

‘To all the wonderful moms in this world, thank you. For all the lessons, for all the love. For you. I love you, mommy,’ concluded Meghan.

Social worker Doria lives in Los Angeles and has maintained a close relationship with Harry, Meghan and their grandchildren.

Intimate family photos in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix docuseries showed the grandmother celebrating key milestones, including Archie’s first birthday.

Former makeup artist Doria and Thomas met on the set of General Hospital and were married in 1979, before separating when Meghan was six.

DORIA SKIN CARE TIPS

In another blog post shared online, but first written in October 2016, Meghan opened up about her skincare treatments on a page titled “everyone’s favorite facialists.”

She revealed that her love for facials began after her mother introduced her to the idea when she was 13 years old.

“It seemed so silly at the time, walking around in my school uniform to see a woman named Anika smearing my skin with Yon-Ka products and chattering about the importance of eye cream,” the Duchess recalled.

“My mom would give Anika a check (and usually some fruit I picked for her at the farmer’s market, because she’s considered that way) and we’d go home to my mom, always the little bird in my ear, saying, ” You should always take care of your skin,” added Meghan.

The Duchess of Sussex’s other skin care tips included drinking plenty of water and applying sunscreen.

HIS FATHER TOLD HIM TO ‘DRAW HIS OWN BOX’

Meghan, in her Father’s Day post, shared how her dad encouraged her to “make her own box.”

She recalled the time when she was asked to check only one of four options (White, Black, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander) for her ethnicity in her seventh grade English class.

“I remember going home that night and telling my dad what happened, recounting how my teacher said just ‘pick one,’ that even though I’m biracial, I should just pick one box and be done with it,” she wrote.

“And in one of those parenting moments that no guidebook could prepare you for, my dad said a few words that will stay with me forever: ‘Draw your own box.

He went on to explain that his father had also previously mixed together two Barbie boxed sets to make a custom one at the time, which included “a black Barbie mommy, a white Ken doll daddy, and two boys, one black and one white.” .. because you could only buy a white or a black Barbie.’
