Jessica Origliasso has been out and proud for a few years.
But the Veronicas singer, who identifies as queer and sexually fluid, says her sexuality initially came out before she was ready.
The 38-year-old tells in this week’s edition of star magazine that she was discovered by media speculation at age 20, before she herself publicly embraced her identity.
‘My affirmation [then] it was that he didn’t need to make a statement. “It’s just going to be me, and if everyone wants to call me a fake lesbian,” which is what they called me at the time, “I really don’t care,” she said.
“I was 20 years old. I didn’t want to give them an answer because I didn’t know what the answer was at the time,” Jess continued.

Jess recently celebrated Valentine’s Day by packing up the PDA with her fiancé Alex Smith.
The You Ruin Me hitmaker announced her engagement to Alex in September of last year.

The lovebirds shared a kiss as they held up their ring fingers in a pseudo-rude gesture, showing off their engagement rings.
Since then, they have frequently shared sweet moments of their romance with Jessica’s fans on social media.
Jessica’s romance with Alex comes after she announced that she had split from her American musician fiancé, Kai Carlton, in October 2020.

She told fans that “no real explanation was given” for their split, and she wished to put the relationship “behind her.”
Before Kai, Jessica was in a relationship with 36-year-old Australian actress and TV presenter Ruby Rose.
Jess and Ruby dated briefly in 2008 before rekindling their romance on the set of The Veronicas’ music video for On Your Side in 2016.
The couple broke up once again in April 2018 and criticized each other on social media after the breakup.
