His brother Mostafa led to one of Australia’s biggest police searches last year.

Police allege that Baluch was involved in an organized crime syndicate that conspired to import and distribute three tons of cocaine, with an estimated potential value of $900 million.

He was allegedly caught hiding in the back of a luxury car inside a shipping container on the back of a truck at the Queensland-NSW border in November.

He had spent weeks on the run while trying to evade capture when the drug shipments were found.

His dramatic arrest was the culmination of a weeks-long manhunt after he allegedly severed an ankle monitor and went on the run.

With the help of US authorities, 1,770 kilograms of cocaine were seized from vessels off the coast of Colombia in October 2020 and Ecuador in April 2021.

Five men have so far been charged for their alleged involvement with the union.

His brother is not involved in the alleged importation nor is he charged with any crime.

HOW THE POLICE CAUGHT BALUCH

2020: Mostafa Baluch was arrested as part of an investigation into an alleged organized crime scheme to supply three tons of cocaine in New South Wales. Detectives launched the investigation after receiving a tip about a person gambling a large amount of money at the Star Casino. The bets were flagged as possible money laundering and sparked an investigation that eventually turned to drug trafficking.

June 2021: Charged with drug offenses when his Bayview home on Sydney’s northern beaches was raided

October 22, 2021: He was released on bail with various conditions and was forced to wear an ankle monitor

October 25, 2021: The tracking device stopped working, and the police began to urgently locate the fugitive.

October 26, 2021: Baluch was due to appear in court, but did not arrive. Police believe they saw Baluch in the back seat of a black Range Rover while traveling east on the M4 at Croydon.

November 4th: Police raid houses in Potts Hill and Yagoona in south-west Sydney in their search for Baluch. They seized more than $250,000 in cash, about 200 grams of cocaine, 485 grams of an unknown substance, mobile phones and an electronic money counter.

November 5th: Rob Crichlow, Commander of the Organized Crime Squad, Detective Superintendent, says police are closing in on the manhunt to find the fugitive and believed he was still in New South Wales.

November 10: Baluch is captured by police at the New South Wales/Queensland border when police intercepted a truck. Baluch was found hiding in the trunk of a Mercedes SUV in a shipping container in the back of the truck.
