Former Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder emerges as favorite to take charge of Elland Road following the sacking of Jesse Marsch… with Leeds now a FOURTH target after pursuits by Andoni Iraola, Arne Slot and Carlos Corberan
Former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has emerged as a strong contender to succeed Jesse Marsch as Leeds United’s next boss.
The 50-year-old was sacked by Ajax last month and is available to take over immediately with Leeds keen to make an appointment before Saturday’s decisive clash with Everton.
Leeds have had little joy in attempts to award Rayo Vallecano’s Andoni Iraola and was rebuffed by Feyenoord’s Arne Slot. West Brom’s Carlos Corberan was also considered but opted to sign a longer contract at the Hawthorns.
Schreuder, who was at Elland Road with his agent Milos Malenovic for Leeds’ clash with Manchester United, established himself as the bookmakers’ favorite on Saturday night after a flurry of bets.
He replaced Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag last May but was sacked at the end of January after a run of six draws and having failed to win a league game since October.
Alfred Schreuder has emerged as the latest favorite to take over the Leeds United job
Ajax installed John Heitinga as caretaker, who won his first two games in charge.
Schreuder has vast experience having managed at Bruges, where he won the league, and Hoffenheim while also working as Ronald Koeman’s assistant at Barcelona.
However, their recent run of results will not wow Leeds fans as they look for the club to make an inspirational quote.
It comes almost a week after the club parted ways with Jesse Marsch following a losing streak
Carlos Corberan was the club’s first choice but opted to stay at West Brom signing a new contract
