Democrats Move to DRIVE Serial Liar George Santos Out of Congress:

>

George Santos could now face expulsion from the House of Representatives after a Democratic lawmaker took the step of seeking to punish the freshman congressman after he was revealed to be a habitual liar.

Rep. Robert Garcia introduced a resolution Thursday to make Santos the sixth House member to be expelled from Congress.

Specifically, Garcia says Santos shouldn’t be privy to classified information he might find as a congressman after it’s proven he can’t be trusted.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said he has not yet decided whether he will support Garcia’s resolution, according to Punchbowl News.

“I have not taken a position on the resolution and I have not read the resolution,” Jeffries said.

However, he called Santos “a complete, utter and total fraud.”

Congressman Robert Garcia, a California Democrat, introduced a resolution Thursday to expel Republican Rep. George Santos from the House of Representatives.

Santos was revealed to be a pathological liar after he was elected to Congress. He told stories about everything from his resume, upbringing and even his family heritage.

A flurry of reports in recent months, after Santos was elected to New York’s 3rd congressional district, reveals that he lied about various aspects of himself, from his professional resume to his education to the ethnicity of his family.

Garcia, who is gay, said Santos has caused “disgust” within the LGBTQ community who feel he has represented them in a negative light.

“The last straw was giving access to classified information,” the California congressman told C-SPAN on Capitol Hill on Thursday. You are literally giving access to America’s secrets to someone who is a fraud and a liar.

The prospect of removal would likely include an investigation resulting in a referral for removal from the panel to the full chamber.

Democrats have increasingly called for action against Santos, and Republicans are beginning to do the same with the New York Republican lawmaker.

Expulsion is the most severe sanction that Congress can impose on a member of the House or Senate.

Only five representatives have been successfully ousted from the House: Representatives John Clark and John Reid of Missouri; Henry Burnett of Kentucky; Michael Myers of Pennsylvania; and James Traficant of Ohio.

Clark, Reid, and Burnett were expelled for taking up arms against the US government in 1861. The next expulsion was not until nearly 120 years later, when Myers was expelled from the House by his colleagues for taking bribes at a FBI operation. He later he was sentenced to three years in prison.

Most recently, Traficant was ousted from the House in 2002 after being convicted of ten felonies, including taking bribes, filing fraudulent tax returns, extortion, and forcing congressional staff to perform tasks on his Ohio farm and his farm. Houseboat in Washington, DC.

Ejection is really the only tool to remove a legislator from office without his constituents voting to remove him from office.

Historically, removal involves disloyalty to the US or a violation of criminal law.

Before taking the step of expulsion, there are two minor actions that either chamber can take to express disapproval of a member or their actions, including a reprimand and a censure.

While only five members of the House have been removed, 15 senators have been ousted from the upper house in American history.

The disciplinary process for expulsion or censure begins with a resolution sent to the corresponding committee. In Santos’ case, this would probably be in the hands of the House Ethics Committee.
