DIY expert reveals how he turned a tiny SHED into a stunning home for $80K

The tiny house trend continues and for those looking to jump on the bandwagon, a DIY expert has revealed how to turn a shed into an impressive house.

In a series of TikTok videos, the creator of Texas @shed_to_house_living reveals how he outfitted a 16-foot by 40-foot two-story barn and created living spaces.

The 32-year-old said the project cost around $80,000 in total and he started by buying a three-acre piece of land for $7,000 with his wife.

Rather than build a structure from scratch, the couple bought a turnkey barn and added drywall to create an open kitchen-living room area, a bedroom, and a bathroom.

In several videos, the creator shows the dramatic transformation of the basic shed into a modern dwelling larger than most New York apartments, complete with thoughtful furniture and appliances.

The low-cost construction project has left many onlookers in awe.

One TikTok user wrote after seeing a tour of the tiny house: “Wow, this ‘shed’ has bigger rooms than my three-bedroom apartment.”

‘My two stories [home] it is approximately 900 square feet. For five people, so it feels VERY crowded.’

The creator revealed that his house features 640 square feet on the ground floor and 384 square feet in the loft that is used for storage.

To get into the attic, the barn dwellers currently use a ladder, but hope to install a retractable one soon.

Another viewer praised the handyman for their tiny house idea given the current economic climate, commenting: ‘So financially savvy! We built one for our 23 year old son to avoid the high rental prices!’

Responding to the kind comments, the creator said: ‘I know that well! At 32 I am mortgage free and living in a home I am proud of.’

The handyman says they built a smaller shed next to their barn to serve as a laundry room.
