Tottenham want England defender Marc Guehi as they look to strengthen at the back ahead of next season with Clement Lenglet’s loan expiring and doubts over Davinson Sanchez…and Crystal Palace could be tempted to sell for £45m

  • The Spurs seek to sign up to two new center-backs before next season
  • Guehi, 22, has become one of England’s best young centre-backs
  • Palace will prepare to keep Guehi and Wilfried Zaha

Tottenham are interested in England defender Marc Guehi as Crystal Palace prepare to fight to keep another key player ahead of next season.

Spurs will look to sign up to two new centre-backs before next season with Guehi high on their plans.

Clement Lenglet’s loan expires in the summer, while there are questions about Davinson Sánchez’s long-term future at Spurs.

Guehi has developed into one of England’s best young centre-backs since joining from Swansea at the start of last season.

His performances propelled him into Gareth Southgate’s plans, the 22-year-old making his intentional debut in 2022. He now has three caps.

The future of Davinson Sánchez is unknown

The Chelsea academy graduate missed out on the chance to make England’s World Cup squad but is back on Southgate’s radar ahead of next month’s games against Italy and Ukraine.

Inter Milan defenders Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar and Red Bull Leipzig central defender Josko Gvardiol are also on Tottenham’s radar, although all three of those deals will be difficult to nail down.

Skriniar says he has already signed a pre-contract agreement to join PSG this summer, but neither club has confirmed the deal.

But Spurs are ready to explore their interest in Guehi, who significantly qualifies as a local player.

Palace want to keep Guehi given his great importance to Patrick Vieira’s team, but the club will consider selling him if they receive a big offer. Any offer over £45m could tempt Palace.

Guehi isn’t the only player who could leave Selhurst Park this summer, and the Eagles are still waiting to hear star player Wilfried Zaha’s intentions before next season.

The Ivory Coast international is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and has yet to sign a new contract that has been on the table for several weeks.

Zaha, who is recovering from a thigh injury, is understood to have yet to give the club a final decision on his future.
