Two children were killed and six injured after a bus driver crashed into a day care center in Canada on Wednesday.

Witnesses watched as the unidentified 51-year-old driver crashed into the building and a group of 12 people at 8:30 am A child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Parents rushed to help children trapped under the bus after it was struck. CBC reported. The six injured children are currently in the hospital and are expected to survive.

The cause of the accident was not revealed, but witnesses said the driver acted “erratically” after the incident. He was arrested and charged with murder.

Dr. Marc Girard, director of Sainte-Justine Hospital, confirmed that the injured children were in preschool with at least two female and two male victims, the news outlet reported.

Girard added that the children were conscious and suffered traumatic injuries.

Police revealed at an evening news conference that the bus driver has been employed by Societe de transport de Laval for 10 years and has no criminal record.

“As of now, we don’t know the motive for the crime,” police spokeswoman Erika Landry said.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Laval, Stephane Boyer, speculated that the crash was not an accident.

“There is a theory that it was an intentional act, but that has yet to be confirmed by the investigation,” Boyer added.

Witness Hamdi Ben Chaabane watched the driver drive downtown at around 24 mph.

“From what I saw, it was not an accident,” Chaabane told the news outlet.

Chaabane added that the driver immediately got out of the car and started yelling while anxiously removing his clothes.

‘He opened the door. He took off all his clothes. He was totally naked,” Chaabane recalled.
