More than 100 NYPD officers packed a Brooklyn courthouse to send a message to a career criminal accused of shooting an off-duty police officer.
Randy ‘Popper’ Jones, 38, appeared in Brooklyn Criminal Court charged with the first-degree murder of 26-year-old Adeed Fayaz.
The married father of two was allegedly shot in the head by Jones while trying to shop for a car on Facebook Marketplace on Saturday.
Judge Dale Fong-Frederick ordered Jones held without bail on Rikers Island after Fayaz died at Brookdale Hospital.
Prosecutors say Jones had an outstanding traffic warrant and was also wanted in a rape case in Virginia when he shot the off-duty police officer and his brother-in-law in East New York.

Fayaz, who has served in the NYPD since 2017, traveled with his relative to meet the seller of a Honda Odyssey at 7 p.m. on February 4.

Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney Leila Rosini told the court: “When Officer Fayaz and his brother arrived, Defendant drew a gun, demanded money, and then shot Officer Fayaz when they failed to produce the money, which they had left behind. in the car along with the bill of sale.
Tragically, and unknown to the defendant, the $24,000 in cash was in his car, but not on his person and he did not wait. He just shot.
His brother-in-law then grabbed the off-duty officer’s gun and fired at the attacker, missing but hitting his getaway BMW, which was owned by his mother.
The car was located abandoned in Harlem, near where the suspect lived with his girlfriend.
Jones, who has several prior convictions, was tracked down two days after the incident at a Days Inn hotel in Nanuet in Rockland County on Monday.
