Harrison Ford says his wife Calista Flockhart REFUSES to fly with him on vintage planes after his crash

Harrison Ford has revealed that his wife Calista Flockhart refuses to fly with him on vintage planes after their near-death accident in 2015.

The iconic actor, 80, who suffered a broken arm and head injuries after a World War II-era plane crash-landed at a Santa Monica golf course, said the crash was “really hard” on his family, which led to a 58-year-old man. Flockhart’s decision.

He said the hollywood reporter: ‘My wife no longer flies with me in old planes, she will do it in others.

‘I certainly don’t want to have to recover from that kind of accident again. It was very hard for my family and it was hard for me. I flew again I know what happened. So that’s part of the reason [I went back].

‘There was a mechanical problem with the plane that I couldn’t have known about or couldn’t attend to in any way. So, in the words of the great philosopher Jimmy Buffett: S**t happens.

He has been married to Flockhart since 2010 and the couple share a 22-year-old son Liam. Harrison is also the father of four other children from his two previous marriages.

Ford, a collector of vintage aircraft, has been involved in several accidents over the years.

Most famously, in 2015 he crash-landed a plane after the engine failed. The plane went down on a golf course during the crash in which Ford suffered head injuries and a broken arm.

But in reality, Ford was praised for keeping his cool and managing to glide his plane into the crash landing. Moments before the crash, on audio of his conversation with air traffic control, an emotionless Ford was heard calling for an emergency landing because his engine had failed.

He said he wasn’t going to be able to make the getaway at the Santa Monica airport, so he chose a long green at the nearby Penmar Golf Course to land off the congested neighborhood road.

After falling 3,000 feet and hitting a tree on the way down, Ford was carried from the scene bleeding profusely from a head wound.

In 2017, he almost crashed his single-engine Husky plane into a Boeing 737.

The actor was instructed to land on runway 20-L at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.

But the star mistakenly aimed at a taxiway and just passed over an American Airlines 737 loaded with more than 100 passengers and a crew of six.

‘Was that plane meant to be under me?’ he asked Air Control.

The Federal Aviation Administration says controllers had given Ford clear instructions to land on the runway, as landing on a taxiway is a safety violation. They say the actor read the instructions but somehow ended up pointing to the taxiway.

American Airlines Flight 1546 was still able to take off for Dallas minutes after the incident. nbc news reports.

And in April 2020, at Los Angeles Hawthorne Airport while piloting his Husky, Ford crossed a runway where another aircraft was landing.

According to the FAA, the two planes were about 3,600 feet from each other and there was no danger of a collision. A Ford representative later said he “misheard” an instruction given to him by air traffic control.

He discovered a passion for flying somewhat late in life, but Ford embraced it with enthusiasm, flying his collection of planes as much as he drove his collection of vintage cars.

The actor was 52 when he began taking flying lessons, and over the years, the Indiana Jones star has amassed an impressive aviation collection.

In an interview with The Mail On Sunday in 2010, the Blade Runner and Star Wars actor talked about some of the planes in his collection and the reasons why he loves to fly.

“Flying is like good music: it lifts the spirit and is exhilarating freedom.” he said. ‘It’s not an exciting thing or an adrenaline rush; it is participating in a process that requires focus and commitment.

Ford has a long-range jet, a Citation Sovereign, a turboprop aircraft capable of operating on unimproved runways; and a single-engine de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver aircraft.

He also owns a 1929 Waco Taperwing convertible biplane, an Aviat Husky, which is a cloth-covered two-seat plane, and a Bell 407 helicopter.

In 1999, Ford crash-landed his helicopter during a training flight in which he and an instructor practiced autorotations in Ventura County, northwest of Los Angeles. Ford and the instructor were uninjured.

Ford was in command of a Beechcraft Bonanza in 2000 when wind shear forced him to make an emergency landing at Lincoln Municipal Airport in Nebraska. Ford and his passenger were uninjured when the plane struck the runway and its wingtips were damaged, authorities said.

In 2014, he was filming ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ on a studio outside London when a door on Solo’s Millennium Falcon spacecraft fell off, breaking the actor’s leg, requiring surgery. He recovered and returned to complete his work on the film.

HARRISON’S BRAVADA EQUALS THAT OF HAN SOLO AND INDIANA JONES

Harrison Ford is just as brash in real life as Han Solo, Indiana Jones, or the other biggest characters he’s played on screen.

While his fictional adventures in ‘Star Wars’ and as the daring archaeologist Jones have thrilled audiences, the star has encountered real-life dangers, and sometimes pain, as he indulges in his love of aviation, fast driving and the unpredictability of cinema.

On Thursday, the actor’s vintage plane crashed on a Los Angeles golf course shortly after taking off from a nearby airport. Ford, who had reported engine failure to air traffic controllers, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Beyond enjoying the skies, Ford also uses his piloting skills, acquired in the mid-1950s, to assist in search and rescue efforts.

These are some of his closest touches, some more dramatic than others, as well as heroic moments:

  • The scar on his face that gives him a jaunty appearance was earned, he says, in “a mundane way.” In 1964, she was speeding to her job at a department store in Orange County, California, when her car veered off the road and into a telephone pole as she was fumbling with her seat belt. safety of her.

  • He used his helicopter in 2000 to lift a hiker from Idaho Falls, Idaho, off 11,106-foot Table Mountain in Teton County, Wyoming, and to a hospital.
  • A year later, Ford and another searcher helped find a missing Boy Scout in a forest south of Yellowstone National Park. “Boy, you sure earned a merit badge for this,” Ford said to the cold and hungry teen after taking him to safety by helicopter.
