  • He was facing five counts of child sexual assault against a victim.
  • He started to ‘wheeze’ after he was found guilty on the first charge.

The mysterious cloudy liquid a sex offender drank in a Texas court after being convicted of sexually assaulting a child has been revealed to be “sodium nitrate.”

Edward LeClair, 57, began drinking the liquid after the jury found him guilty on the first count and continued to drink while the other charges were read on August 11, 2022.

He died shortly after.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office told DailyMail.com on Tuesday that the way LeClair died was a suicide, although the toxicology report was still being completed.

LeClair was facing five counts of child sexual assault against a victim, which took place in 2016 according to the Denton County Jail.

He had been waiting to hear the verdict in the 16th District Court in Denton, Texas, along with his attorney before drinking the poisonous potion. It is not clear how much sodium nitrate was ingested.

LeClair had been waiting to hear the verdict in the 16th District Court in Denton, Texas, along with his lawyer when he started drinking water.

First Assistant District Attorney Jamie Beck of the Denton County District Attorney’s Office said the situation had initially been normal.

But when LeClair heard that he had been found guilty on the first count, he grabbed his bottle and ‘downed’ the cloudy liquid as he was found guilty on the other four counts.

Beck said WFAA: ‘The jury enters and takes their seats, the defendant and his lawyer stand up.

‘The jury delivers the verdict to the judge, who then begins to read. It is during this process that he had a bottle of water with him on the lawyer’s table and he drank it.

‘It wasn’t like he was just taking sips of water. She was literally pulling him back, so to speak.

Beck explained that while those in the courtroom felt his actions were strange, they thought it was just his way of dealing with the situation.

LeClair was taken back to a holding cell after the verdicts were read, before the officers decided to control him due to his strange behavior.

The water bottle in which LeClair contained the poisonous potion was collected as evidence.

He was found unconscious, with witnesses saying he had “turned gray” and was rushed to Medical City Denton, where he was pronounced dead.

Beck added: ‘Our investigator noticed him swallowing the water. He told the bailiff that he might want to go check on him. The bailiff did.

He was unconscious in the holding cell. Shortly after entering the remaining cell, she began to vomit and emergency services were called.

The Texas Rangers are also investigating the incident and have taken the bottle as evidence.
