Stella McCartney Receives CBE For Services In King Charles Fashion

Fashion designer Stella McCartney received a CBE at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

McCartney designed the famous Duchess of Sussex wedding reception dress and Team GB uniforms for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The 51-year-old, who champions the production of environmentally friendly garments free of animal products, earned her CBE for services to fashion and sustainability after being recognized in the 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

King Charles presented him with the honor with Skunk Anansie singer Deborah Dyer, better known by her stage name Skin, also among those receiving the honours.

Stella previously received an OBE for services to fashion.

The designer looked elegant in a navy blue dress cinched at the waist and accessorized with a veiled headband.

McCartney, 51, appeared at the Cop26 climate change summit in 2021, where he complained that the fashion world had “got away with it” and called on the industry to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions. greenhouse effect.

Motivated by her late mother Linda, a passionate animal rights activist, McCartney has not used fur, leather or animal fur on her label since it launched in 2001.

Linda died of cancer at the age of 56 in 1998 after 29 years of marriage to Stella’s father, Beatles legend Paul.

“I was riding my horse there the other morning and living my best life and thinking, all that matters is that I can do all the things that I wish my mother could do,” Stella said.

Talking about her upbringing, she once confessed that it was her parents’ frugal lifestyle that developed her passion for reusing and recycling in fashion:

“I grew up in a family that doesn’t throw things away. And it sounds silly, but I didn’t have a huge amount of money growing up,” she reflected in a 2019 interview with Goalkeeper Edition.

‘My mom and dad were really smart; I went to a full [school] and they didn’t give me a lot of money, so I went to vintage and second-hand stores and markets to buy clothes.

“When I was younger, being a vegetarian and an animal activist was a very touchy subject and was always met with a lot of defensiveness or a lot of aggression,” she added.

“It was never an honest conversation that you could have with people, so I had to be aware of how you could plant a seed of change in people who might not have that upbringing or the same point of view.

“It has never been my way of berating people and making them feel bad, because I think it’s an overwhelming and daunting conversation. So I try to give information that is honest but not too scary, ”she confessed.

While she runs a high-flying fashion empire, on the personal front, Stella has been married to husband Alasdhair Willis since 2003 and they share four children: Miller, 17, Bailey, 15, Beckett, 14, and Reiley, 11.
