‘Maybe it’s me’: LeBron James posts cryptic tweet just hours after successful Kyrie Irving trade to Mavericks, aiming for Nets owner Joe Tsai NOT to send guard to Lakers

LeBron James posted a cryptic tweet Sunday after a Lakers meeting with former teammate Kyrie Irving fell through.

The Brooklyn Nets traded Irving to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday afternoon following the 30-year-old’s trade ultimatum on Friday.

The Lakers were believed to be interested in the guard who would have seen him reunite with James after the two played together for the Cleveland Cavaliers for three seasons.

But the Lakers, along with the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles rivals the Clippers, missed out on Irving.

Following the news of Irving’s trade to Dallas, James shared a cryptic three-word message on social media.

On Twitter, the Lakers superstar, who is just 36 points shy of the NBA’s all-time scoring record, wrote: “Maybe it’s me.”

It’s unclear if James was referring to Irving’s successful trade, but the timing was interesting as the post was published just hours after the news broke.

James was asked the night before if Irving could be the player to increase the Lakers’ chances of winning their second NBA title in the last four seasons, and he simply replied: “Duh.”

The Lakers, who are trying to inject some life into their season, tried to get involved since Irving was interested in going to Los Angeles.

The franchise is currently 25-29 and 13th in the West, 2.5 games into the tournament.

But they and James had their hopes dashed after Irving headed to Dallas with Nets owner Joe Tsai’s goal of not sending the guard to Los Angeles, according to Mark Stein.

Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday afternoon, ending his controversial tenure with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets get Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round pick and multiple second-round picks for Irving, according to Atlético. Markieff Morris is also heading to Dallas.

Nets owner Joe Tsai's goal was reportedly not to send the guard to Los Angeles.

The Lakers were also tied to the Irving move, but according to ESPN, the Nets preferred the package offered by Dallas. The picks the Nets get in the deal are a 2029 unprotected first-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2029 second-round pick.

Irving also has history with Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, who previously worked at Nike, and Dallas is said to be eager to bring in another big name to partner with MVP candidate Doncic.
