An assist from Sam Kerr and a great solo effort from Lauren James have helped lift Chelsea to the top of the Women’s Super League.
The London club replaced Manchester United at the top as Emma Hayes’ defending champions beat Tottenham 3-2.
Jess Carter headed the visitors into an early lead, which was canceled out by a goal from former Chelsea striker Bethany England in the 16th minute.
James restored Chelsea’s lead just before the half-hour mark, picking up the ball on the right flank and past three defenders before firing into the bottom corner.

The Australian star (pictured warming up before kick-off) flicked the ball for Reiten to score on 64 minutes to make it 3-1.
Guro Reiten added a third for Hayes’ side in the 64th minute, taking advantage of a touch from Kerr to clear past keeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela.
Nikola Karczewska reduced the deficit to two minutes from the end of normal time, but Spurs could not avoid a sixth successive league defeat.
“It was a tough game,” Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said.
“The first half we didn’t create enough depth to have the control we wanted, at least in the deeper spaces. We got in trouble.
‘But this is a tough league. Anyone who thinks it’s going to be a near-perfect performance, it’s not. It will be a routine until the end.
Coupled with Manchester United’s 0–0 draw at home to fifth-placed Everton, the result meant Kerr’s Chelsea moved two points clear at the top of the table.

Lucia Garcia and Alessia Russo, playing for the first time since United rejected a world-record offer for her from Arsenal on transfer deadline day, saw their efforts hit the net for the Toffees in the first half, and Ella Toone then hit a pole after breaking it.
Arsenal’s Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord were unable to get past their Matildas teammate Mackenzie Arnold, who kept a clean sheet for West Ham as the two London teams shared a goalless draw.
The result moved Arsenal back above Hayley Raso’s Manchester City in third place. They are five points behind Chelsea and three behind United, with a game remaining on both.
Liverpool moved up to eighth, pushing Tottenham to ninth, with a 2–0 home win over 11th-placed Reading.
