Wolves tease Jurgen Klopp on Twitter by joking they only beat Liverpool 2-0 despite three-goal win

Wolves mocked Jurgen Klopp on Twitter following Liverpool’s miserable 3-0 loss to Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds boss was left without ‘explanation’ after his side went down within five minutes, with Joel Matip scoring an own goal before debutant Craig Dawson hammered a loose ball past Alisson Becker to give the team Julen Lopetegui a 2-0 lead.

After a poor first half, the Merseyside club rallied after the break to put pressure on the home side, who masterfully absorbed the pressure. And it wasn’t long before Wolves got their own chance, launching a counter-attack on the visitors that saw Ruben Neves score his fifth goal of the season.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Klopp, who criticized his own team’s performance but also claimed after the final whistle that Wolves’ third goal should not have stood.

“I don’t count the third goal because it was the first time they passed the halfway line in the second half,” he said. “The other two goals, going into a game with all the things we said throughout the week and leading up to the game, so this is the start, it’s horrible.”

And Wolves took to Twitter to mock the German manager, sarcastically posting an image joking that they only won 2-0, while downplaying their captain’s third goal in response to his claims the goal shouldn’t have stood.

Fans on social media have been praising Wolves’ social media managers, with some saying ‘give them Wolves Twitter managers a raise’, while others joked, ‘give them three more points’.

It’s not the first time this season that the club’s social media accounts have made Twitter users laugh, with Wanderers’ social accounts mocking a Nottingham Forest Tweet in October after their 1-0 win against Steve Cooper team.

Forest’s social accounts had posted a pre-game image of Emmanuel Dennis playing with three baby wolves before the game, which was captioned: “Playtime.”

Following their win, Wolves administrators responded jokingly, posting an image of a tree stump with an axe, with the caption: “Playing time is over.”

But it seems they’re back to their old tricks, with fans labeling their post an ‘unreal tweet’ and others claiming ‘Wolves admin is still the GOAT’.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Klopp, whose team are winless in their last four Premier League games, this being their third successive away defeat.

He said: ‘I don’t have any explanation for you, sorry. It has to change.

‘These first 15 minutes cannot be allowed. It has to change. I have no explanation. There is no excuse for it.

“Everton won today and they are in a good moment, so we have to show something again.”

‘We caused misery with the first 12 minutes. It can’t happen but it did. That’s really hard to swallow.

You are 2-0 down, the crowd is there, but it opens up and we have some control. Then, for about 45 minutes, we played a good game away from home without scoring. That pretty much sums it up.

Wolves, for their part, have not beaten the Merseyside club since 2019, and Julen Lopetegui was very happy with his team’s performance.

“Happy, of course,” he said of the result. ‘We need victories to achieve our objective and today we played a very good team.

‘Against these types of teams you have to be very close to perfection otherwise you don’t score and sometimes it’s not enough.

‘We try to defend well, be aggressive and match them with the ball. It’s not easy, it’s easier if you score fast like we did today but in the end it’s three points.

‘We haven’t done anything yet, we have a lot of work ahead of us, Hwang Hee-chan’s injury was a pity, but after that we will try to be ready for the next match.

‘I want to highlight the team in general. They have played very well and we tried to match Liverpool. We suffered when we had to, playing against one of the best teams. We are happy today.
