Teenager dies after being attacked by a shark in Western Australia despite her boyfriend’s desperate attempts to save her
A teenager tragically died after being attacked by a shark in Western Australia.
The teenager is believed to have bitten his leg while in the Swan River next to a traffic bridge in north Fremantle.
WA Police said they received a triple zero call around 3:30pm and emergency services responded to the scene. Initially it was reported that he was fighting for his life, but he has since passed away.
A witness said the teen had been swinging on the rope with her friends from the traffic bridge at the time.
“The girl jumped off the rope swing and then a bull shark pulled her down and then her boyfriend tried to help her out. And she passed away on the beach,” a boy told The West Australian.

WA Police were initially told they may have been injured by a boat propeller.
The Department for Primary Industries and Regional Development confirmed on Saturday afternoon that they were currently investigating a report of a “possible shark bite” incident.
“DPIRD is working with local authorities and more information will be provided as it becomes available,” a spokesperson said.
