Red Bull’s underwhelming 2023 F1 car launch where host gets Daniel Ricciardo’s name horrible wrong

Red Bull’s season launch for the 2023 F1 season went from one disaster to another in New York overnight, culminating in Australian star Daniel Ricciardo being dubbed Daniel ‘Retard’ on live TV.
Red Bull’s 2023 car launch in the US has been widely criticized by fans for featuring too little new information and car livery that looks almost identical to the 2022 cars.
Ricciardo was able to laugh off the mistake, but fans were genuinely shocked that the host could mispronounce his name so wildly.
However, it was the moment that new signing Daniel Ricciardo was mispronounced by co-host Giselle Zarur in a live broadcast on Sky Sports that the event really plunged to new lows.
“Welcome to one of the friendliest drivers on the F1 grid, Daniel Retardo, to Oracle Reb Bull Racing,” he said as the Australian driver stood there awkwardly.
“I couldn’t believe this when I heard it live,” a surprised fan posted on Twitter.
Another added: “I can’t believe he didn’t even flinch.”
‘What the hell is this presenter doing or saying?’ asked another.
“Bro no way she said Daniel Retardo, slander names are getting out of hand,” another confused fan replied.
Ricciardo and Verstappen added some humor to the event by arriving in mini karts that drove to the venue in New York.
The Oracle Red Bull Racing RB19 is unveiled during Oracle Red Bull Racing’s 2023 season launch, looking very similar to the car used in 2022.
The event started on a positive note, with hilarious footage of Verstappen and Ricciardo arriving at the venue in comically small mini-karts.
Fans weren’t impressed though, as the event dragged on before a very disappointing car was revealed.
‘Red Bull Racing F1 Team, did you forget to pack the car for the presentation? Stop wasting time,’ demanded one fan.
“We sit here for an hour and it looks exactly the same,” another laughed.
However, racing fans hoping to see Ricciardo back behind the wheel of the Red Bull where it all began should probably temper their expectations.
With Dutch champion Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez firmly entrenched in the top two driver positions, Ricciardo will have to wait for an opportunity.
However, he reiterated his need for a year of mental rest, saying fans were unlikely to see him drive much in 2023.
“Right now, I’m not really looking to do anything serious or competitive,” Ricciardo said. “I also want that mental free time,” he said.
“It’s a chance for me to take a little bit more light-hearted approach to things and relax.” So I think if I got into something that would put a lot of pressure on me.
Verstappen, Ricciardo and Perez attend Red Bull Racing’s unveiling of the team’s new Formula One car during a launch event in New York City.
I don’t know, I’m not sure I would really enjoy it or I don’t know if that’s really what 2023 is asking of me. So for now, not really, I guess that’s probably the long answer.
Red Bull has partnered with American manufacturer Ford, which will work with the team’s Powertrains division to develop a turbo-hybrid power unit for the recently agreed 2026 engine regulations.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has high expectations for the team in 2023 with a new car and a new partnership with Ford.
Team principal Christian Horner said he expected big things in 2023 from a strong team headed by Max Verstappen.
‘It’s going to be an incredible season. Our rivals, sure, have not stood still. We expect Ferrari to be competitive, Mercedes will be there, [and] there are other teams that could also make great progress.
‘At this time of year, everything is a big unknown, and it’s a matter of focusing on ourselves, doing the best we can. Then in Bahrain in a couple of weeks we’ll see everyone’s car and realize, ‘Have we missed something? It is not like this?
‘We then embarked on this journey of 23 races between March and November. There will be ups and downs along the way, I’m sure, but I think we’re in a good place and looking to continue the momentum from last year.”
