Marcus Rashford tells Manchester United to “look forward, not back” on Twitter after being named Player of the Month… while teammate Mason Greenwood dominates the conversation at the club.
Marcus Rashford has told Manchester United to “look forward, not back” after being named Premier League Player of the Month for January.
But despite receiving the accolade for the second time this season, Rashford’s teammate Mason Greenwood dominates conversations at the club.
On Thursday, the 21-year-old was cleared of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior and assault after charges against him were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. It came just over a year after the striker was arrested.
Man United said they will now “go through their own process before determining the next steps” on Greenwood’s future.
While United struggle to figure out what to do off the pitch, Erik ten Hag’s men are certainly shooting.
Marcus Rashford collected the Premier League and Manchester United Player of the Month awards in January
Despite Rashford’s excellent form, conversations at the club are being dominated by teammate Mason Greenwood.
United’s in-form star Rashford celebrated his award by posting a photo of him holding the Premier League and Manchester United Player of the Month trophies.
The caption read: ‘The last month couldn’t have gone better for me. On a personal note, this is the first time I’ve won these awards together and I hope it won’t be the last. Thanks to my teammates, the coaches, my family and the fans for helping me win these awards.’
He later followed up the post with another short tweet. ‘Now is the time to wait for the next batch of games and not last month! We have many important games starting tomorrow’, said the red-hot striker.
Rashford’s January saw him appear in four of United’s league games, including Bournemouth and Man City, while he scored three times, including a cork to open the scoring during their narrow defeat to league leaders Arsenal.
It is still unclear what Man United will do with fellow striker Greenwood and Ten Hag declined to comment on the future of the England star.
Speaking ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday, he said: ‘I can’t add anything. It’s… I mean the club’s statement.
No matter how well Rashford and United continue to do, the Greenwood saga is not one that will go fast.
Rashford has scored 18 goals this season and is determined the club will “look forward, not back”.
