Just days after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced it will investigate Andrea Riseborough’s grassroots Oscar campaign, her To Leslie co-star Marc Maron is criticizing the Academy’s investigation.
Maron, 59, who plays motel owner Sweeney on To Leslie, called out to the Academy in the latest episode of his wtf podcast released on Monday.
The actor and broadcaster said he believes the Oscars decided to investigate because his campaign “threatens” their corporate system.

“Apparently the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences or whatever has decided to investigate Andrea Riseborough’s grassroots campaign to get her an Oscar nomination,” Maron began.
“Because I guess it threatens their system so much that corporate interests buy them outright in the form of studies,” he added.
