Divers have pulled a man’s body from a popular Melbourne waterway after a shocked passerby came across the grim discovery on their lunchtime walk. 

Emergency services were called to Coburg Lake in the city’s north around 12.30pm on Thursday.

A walker raised the alarm after spotting the horrific find during a stroll through the reserve.

Officers cordoned off the area while search and rescue divers retrieved the unidentified man’s body from the lake. 

‘Police are working to identify the man and will await the results of a post mortem to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death,’ a Victoria Police  spokeswoman said.

The body was removed from the scene in a bag.
