An American expat living in Sydney has called Australian men “lazy” when it comes to dating.
Sophia Kim, who goes by Sophia In Sydney online, said she had repeatedly heard about a ‘stereotype’ about Australian men not making an effort to know who they are dating and wondered if it was true.
The Los Angeles-based swimwear designer reflected on her past relationship with an Australian man, saying her “laziness” was the reason it didn’t work out in a video Posted on TikTok.

An American expat living in Sydney, Sophia (pictured) said she heard a stereotype about Australian men being lazy when it comes to dating and wondered if it was true.
Sophia said a friend told her that actor Liam Hemsworth was “like most Australian men” after stories surfaced about him wanting to do more to stay with ex-wife Miley Cyrus.
Rumors have been circulating about the pair’s relationship after the singer released a scathing new single ‘Flowers’ which is said to be about Liam.
One rumor has it that the Australian actor allegedly dedicated the Bruno Mars song ‘When I Was Your Man’ to Miley before their split.
“My girlfriend was saying that Liam is like most Australian men, which is being lazy,” Sophia said.
“We all know he dedicated that Bruno Mars song to her saying he wished he’d bought her flowers and stuff.”
Sophia said her mother told her that she had met an Australian woman in the US who warned her that her daughter would date men from Australia.
“My mom, I guess she heard from another woman in America who was Australian and she said to my mom, ‘Oh my gosh, don’t let your daughter date an Australian guy because they’re so lazy,'” she said.
“I’m thinking about my ex and I’m like, yeah my ex was lazy and that’s why it didn’t work out and I’m wondering why, is that a cultural thing?”
