Police did not confirm whether the child was the woman’s child.

It comes just hours after a separate incident in which a woman was killed in a head-on collision in south-east Melbourne.

Two cars collided on O’Shea Road in Berwick around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, and the female driver of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver, female passenger, a child and an infant in the second vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The two children are reported to be in a stable but serious condition at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Both adults remain in stable condition at The Alfred hospital.

The police are investigating the cause of the accident and will prepare a report for the coroner.
