Philadelphia police will GREASE traffic light poles on city streets in an attempt to prevent fans from climbing them as part of the wild celebrations if the Eagles win the NFC Championship.

The city of Philadelphia is bracing for the fallout from a potential Eagles win in the NFC Championship on Sunday and that includes greasing street poles in hopes of deterring climbers.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement that Philadelphians are encouraged to celebrate “in a safe and responsible manner.”

The statement from the mayor’s office said the Philadelphia Police Department “will institute the practice of greasing poles as a deterrent to climbing poles and light fixtures.”

Philadelphia fans have become notorious for climbing street poles, as many were seen doing so while celebrating the Eagles’ recent run to the Super Bowl title in 2018, as well as during the Philadelphia Phillies’ recent run to the Series. World Cup, before being defeated by the Houston Astros.

It was not revealed which street poles would specifically be oiled or when the oil would be applied, however it was revealed that there would also be multiple streets closed and barricaded in unidentified locations.

The mayor’s office also revealed that there will be temporary no parking signs along the South Broad Street corridor and around City Hall.

The Eagles face the Niners at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
