- He returns to the Premier League after being sacked by Burnley nine months ago
Sean Dyche is Everton’s new manager and will take up the fight to save them from relegation with immediate effect.
The club will confirm his appointment in the next 24 hours. Ian Woan and Steve Stone are expected to become assistant coaches at Goodison Park.
Everton have moved quickly to seal a deal for Dyche after failing to convince number 1 choice Marcelo Bielsa to take over the job.
Sean Dyche has been appointed as Everton’s new manager, replacing Frank Lampard
Dyche took over the role after Everton missed their number 1 target, Marcelo Bielsa.
Bielsa was the preferred candidate to fill the vacancy: Sportsmail revealed on Thursday that the Argentine had flown to London for talks with the club.
These talks with the Argentine have been described as positive, but the club feel a speed-dating is necessary and have turned to Dyche.
Despite Bielsa’s arrival yesterday, Everton acknowledged that persuading Bielsa would be difficult.
Bielsa had reservations about whether the current team can adapt to his high-energy style.
The South American’s deal at Leeds was for a minimum of £11m, a package Everton would be hard-pressed to match given their financial difficulties.
Everton are currently stuck in the relegation zone, two points from safety.
There was talk of Davide Ancelotti (right) as an alternative, but Everton have opted for Dyche
However, the very fact that Bielsa had flown to the capital to meet Everton had sparked optimism that a deal could be struck.
In fact, Bielsa was excited about the job, but wanted to start in the summer.
Sportmail revealed yesterday that Davide Ancelotti, son of former coach Carlo, had been discussed as an alternative.
The 33-year-old coach, who worked under his father at Goodison Park, is currently part of the back room at Real Madrid, where Carlo is coach.
Carlos Corberan and Sam Allardyce were also of interest to Everton, but Dyche won the race to lead Everton.
