Tom Brady’s mysterious, team-approved sabbatical from Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp for ‘personal reasons’ has rankled – of all people – former teammate Antonio Brown.
Brown, who was cut by the Bucs after abandoning teammates in the midst of a January game against the New York Jets, called out Brady on Twitter Wednesday.
‘Tom brady manipulate the game gets 14 days go home get his mind rt lol,’ read Brown’s tweet. ‘Now u see the difference.’

Brady was given permission to take leave by the Bucs brass prior to training camp, and head coach Todd Bowles has since revealed that he will return sometime after the team’s second preseason game on August 20. A specific reason for Brady’s absence has not been disclosed, but Bowles said the seven-time Super Bowl champion is ‘going to deal with some personal things.’
Brown and Brady have been teammates twice, albeit briefly.
Their first collaboration came in New England after Brown’s unceremonious departure from the Oakland Raiders, who cut him in 2019 amid disputes between him and the front office.

Brady and Brown connected on a touchdown pass in their first game together against the Miami Dolphins, but the latter was then released by the Patriots after he was sued for allegedly sexually assaulting his female former trainer. Brady even welcomed Brown to stay with him at friend Derek Jeter’s home before the two went on to win Super Bowl at the end of the season, but the good times couldn’t last.
Ultimately Brady expressed concerns for Brown’s mental health after the mercurial receiver’s infamous MetLife Stadium meltdown last January, when he ripped of his jersey and shoulder pads following a fight with then-head coach Bruce Arians and bolted for the exit.
‘It’s a difficult situation,’ Brady said after the come-from-behind win on January 2. ‘Everybody should do what they can to help him in ways that he really needs it. We all love him. We care about him deeply. We want to see him be at his best. Unfortunately, it won’t be with our team.
‘I think everyone should be very compassionate and empathetic toward some very difficult things that are happening.’

On Wednesday, Brown also took aim at Brady’s trainer and business partner, Alex Guerrero, whom he had previously worked with as well.
‘Alex Guerra (sic) You think i won’t have u smacked at TB12 boy stop playing with me !’ Brown tweeted. ‘Boy getting paid by bucks (sic) n taking players money too.’
Guerrero and Brown had a billing disagreement around the time the latter was cut by the Buccaneers in January.
In a since-deleted post, Brown shared a purported exchange between himself and Guerrero. The conversation, which appears to have occurred on December 24, showed the two severing their partnership amicably.
‘Hey Ag if we not going to work any more (sic) that’s fine,’ Brown wrote. ‘[Let me know] about the [$100,000] I paid you only fair get back half my money [let me know] how to proceed.’
Brown received a polite response, agreeing to repay the balance of what he was owed.
‘Good morning AB,’ Brown was told, allegedly, by Guerrero. ‘I appreciate you reaching out to me. I completely understand that you want to go in a different direction. Thank you for the opportunity to work together. You are a wonderful person. I hope for your continued success on and off the field. Please let me know where you want me to send the balance. Big hugs my friend.’
It’s unclear why Brown shared that exchange, which he also posted on Instagram.
