Hilaria Baldwin, wife of actor Alec Baldwin, appears to have subtly responded to criticism that she faking her Spanish heritage by donning a ‘Keep Calm and Fanta de Limón’ T-shirt.
Born Hilary in Massachusetts, Baldwin, 37, wore the T-shirt as she left her Manhattan apartment Tuesday morning, days after coming under fire for addressing reporters with a Spanish accent.
She has a history of falsely claiming she is Spanish, a habit she apologized for two years ago. Around that time, she shared a photo of herself in the same T-shirt, adding a caption: “When life gives you lemons.” The phrase ‘When life gives you lemons, make lemonade’ encourages optimism in the face of adversity.
Her outfit may also be a nod to the manslaughter charge that will be imposed on her husband after he accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the 2021 film Rust.
Fanta Limón, known in English as Fanta Lemon, is a variant of Fanta that was discontinued in the US in 2018, but has long been a big player in the Spanish soft drink market.

Her decision comes after prosecutors explained this weekend that while her husband would be charged in Hutchins’ death, he would not be charged with shooting Rust director Joel Souza.
While filming his western film Rust outside of Santa Fe, Alec Baldwin accidentally shot both Hutchins and Souza with a single bullet.
Baldwin had been practicing removing a revolver from its holster when a bullet went off and pierced Souza’s shoulder after traveling through Hutchins’ chest.
The actor insisted during an interview with police that he had been told the gun was “cold” when it was delivered to him and, more importantly, that he did not pull the trigger.
Baldwin has refuted an FBI report that he must have pulled the trigger to fire the gun.
The Santa Fe district attorney’s office, which is similarly charging on-set gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was confident it could prosecute both of them.
They face up to 18 months in prison if convicted of manslaughter. If they are also convicted of enhancing the use of firearms on that charge, they will face a mandatory five-year prison sentence.
Hilaria had worn the shirt before and included a caption that read, “When life gives you lemons.”
Fanta Limón is a popular Fanta variant available in Spain but not in the US.
Hilaria approached the photographers on Friday and told them in a Spanish accent: ‘I’m going to tell you what I’m going to tell you, you’re not going to ask me questions. I want you to realize that we have seven children, and for you to be here to walk them to school and be there when they come home is not good.
‘So, on a human level, you know I’m not going to tell you anything. You know it. So please leave my family alone and let it develop.
In February 2021, she apologized for faking her Spanish heritage, saying in an Instagram post that she “should have been more clear” and that she “spent the last month listening, reflecting, and wondering how I can learn and grow.”
He acknowledged that he was born in Boston and called himself Hillary, despite the fact that for years he claimed that Mallorca was his hometown and that he came to the United States at the age of 19 to study.
Hilaria’s parents, Dr. Kathryn Hayward and David Thomas, pictured, are Boston natives who worked in the US for years before retiring in Mallorca in 2011.
Hilaria’s parents moved to Mallorca in 2011 when she was 28 years old.
“I came to school and I never, never left,” he once said in an April 2020 interview. A tax form also surfaced in which it was clear Hilaria was debating between using her birth name and the adopted Spanish version. .
The document shows she crossed out both the first and last names from the 2009 W-4 document before finally settling on Hillary L. Hayward-Thomas, her birth name, on her second try.
Records also show that Hilaria’s parents, Dr. Kathryn Hayward and David Thomas, were also Massachusetts natives who had lived and worked in the US for years, only moving to Mallorca in 2011 when they retired.
Hayward is not Spanish and is, in fact, a fourth-generation Massachusetts resident who spent most of her career practicing medicine in Longmeadow, records show.
Hayward gave birth to Hillary in January 1984 in Boston.
