This Elden Ring mod just gave me something I wish was in the base game

If you play Elden Ring on PC, you might want to download the free Reforged mod, especially after the last major update.
That’s because the latest Elden Ring Reforged update has added a full bestiary to the game. That’s right; a comprehensive list of all types of enemies and bosses found throughout The Lands Between can now be accessed and researched through the Codex of the All-Knowing. Updating the mod to the latest version will make a chest appear in the Roundtable Hold hub where the codex can be obtained (thanks, WCftech (opens in new tab)).
Like many of the best Elden Ring mods, the Reforged bestiary update continues and actively encourages players to complete it. According to the Nexus Mods page (opens in new tab) for Reforged, you can create a consumable called the “Sign of the Al-Knowing.” This marks an enemy and brings it into the bestiary when defeated.
This is just the latest in a long line of updates to Elden Ring Reforged. But if this is your first time hearing about the acclaimed mod, you may be wondering what it is. The elevator pitch is Reforged remixing elements of Elden Ring’s gameplay.
That includes swapping item placements, the ability to resurrect defeated bosses, the addition of Fortune items that can permanently improve your character in certain aspects, and even difficulty adjustment options to name just a few of the improvements that Reforged brings with it. brings.
The mod brings plenty of fantastic quality-of-life updates, but I’m especially a big fan of the remixed elements. It’s not unlike the ‘Second Quest’ systems found in many Zelda games, which typically change the placement of enemies and items, as well as shifting dungeon layouts.
New Life in The Lands Between
Elden Ring is a brilliant game, but it’s hard to go back to for repeat playthroughs. That’s largely down to the sheer scale of the game, and retracing your steps through a vast open world isn’t the most appetizing proposition. The relatively linear nature of previous FromSoftware games such as Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne makes New Game Plus much easier to digest.
That’s why mods like Elden Ring Reforged are very welcome. Transformative mods like these can breathe new life into experiences you’ve played over and over again. In the very best cases, it can almost feel like you’re playing a whole new game.
I definitely noticed this when I recently used an item randomizer mod for Dark Souls Remastered. I’ve played Dark Souls so many times that I can map most of the item locations from memory. But with a randomizer, I really have no idea what I’ll find in Lordran’s many nooks and crannies. It puts the emphasis back on exploration as opposed to just keeping up through the game for the best picks.
I certainly enjoyed my time completing Elden Ring, but I know if I’m going to play such a huge game all over again, it’ll be with a top-notch mod like Reforged.
