Newcastle start formal talks with Everton over signing Anthony Gordon in hopes a deal can be reached, but the Toffees are asking £60m for the striker who remains a Chelsea target

  • Sources claim a package in the region of £25m plus £15m worth of add-ons will do it.
  • It is said that Chelsea would be willing to loan Anthony Gordon back to the Toffees.

Newcastle are now in formal talks with Everton over a deal for winger Anthony Gordon, but are also talking to a number of European clubs about attacking options from the continent.

Potential suitors for the 21-year-old have been buoyed that there is a deal to be made this month, and Chelsea retain a long-standing interest.

Sources claim a package in the region of £25m plus £15m in add-ons could be agreed, although Everton are believed to be asking for close to £60m.

Newcastle are unlikely to go that high, but Chelsea could. They would also be willing to return Gordon to the Toffees.

However, the player is likely to want a clean break if he leaves Goodison Park with Newcastle the most likely destination. Eddie Howe is a fan and Gordon would seem to be his main domestic target.

Newcastle’s scouting team has also identified a number of foreign players in the club’s search for attacking reinforcements and talks are underway with at least two clubs.

Chris Wood was allowed to leave for Nottingham Forest last week and Howe has been adamant that he wants to replace the striker, although the focus now is on a more versatile striker.
