Helen Worth of Coronation Street receives an MBE from Prince William
Coronation Street star Helen Worth has been awarded an MBE for her services to the theater at Windsor Castle.
The Ossett-born actress, 72, who has played Gail Platt on the soap since 1974, collected her honor from the Prince of Wales on Wednesday.
During that time, Helen has been at the center of a series of explosive stories, including the iconic moment in which her husband, serial killer Richard Hillman, nearly drowned her.

Heading to the Castle to collect her honour, Helen couldn’t contain her joy as she spoke to Prince William.
The veteran soap opera star donned a sophisticated black blazer over a matching printed blouse and pleated skirt, teamed with a chic fishnet headdress.
Helen made her debut as a young Gail in the 1970s, and was soon followed by her desperate mother Audrey (played by Sue Nicholls).
In her nearly 50-year stint on the soap, she has been married five times, including Brian Tilsey (Christopher Quinten), who was tragically stabbed to death, and Martin Platt (Sean Wilson), one of the soap’s longtime characters. .

One of Gail’s most iconic moments came when she appeared in an episode of a two-hander with her husband Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) in 2003, after learning he was a serial killer.
The famous episode, which featured plenty of one-liners, saw Richard confess to killing several people on the cobblestones, including Maxine Peacock.

Her quest to find love has never been easy, as Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers) later conned her out of all her savings, as revenge for getting in the way of his love for his mother Audrey.
Gail is also no stranger to comedic moments, including a legendary cobblestone fight with Eileen Grimshaw, after learning that her son Todd had impregnated Sarah.
More recently, Gail has been dealing with the fallout of her grandson Max’s grooming at the hands of far-right extremists, much to the despair of her son David (Jack P Shepherd).
