Timothy Tregoning appears outside Waverley Local Court on Tuesday

The ex-husband of PE Nation co-founder Claire Tregoning bought a bag of cocaine the same day she told him not to come home, a court heard.

Timothy Tregoning, 41, pleaded guilty in November to possession of a prohibited drug after police found him with 0.92 grams of cocaine on Bondi Beach on September 30.

The father of two was supported by his parents and lawyer Bryan Wrench as he was sentenced to two criminal convictions and a good behavior bond at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday.

During his sentencing, the court heard that Tregoning was “falling apart” when he bought the bag of cocaine due to a harrowing phone call with his now-ex-wife, Claire.

Mr. Wrench told the court that his client was experiencing weight loss and muscle spasms during that time period, and that he was “on the verge of separating” at the time of the offence.

The magistrate told the court: “He was distraught and realized it was confirmation that he felt he was using his wife and children.”

“He wanted to feel a numbing sensation and went ahead with buying cocaine.”

The couple quietly ended their 11-year marriage eight months ago, but the court heard on Tuesday that Claire wrote a brilliant character reference.

“She writes very well about him and supports him,” the magistrate told the court.

The court heard that Tregoning had several sessions with psychologists and psychiatrists after he was charged with possession of drugs to help him with his depression and ADHD, leading him to act “impulsively”.

In his sentencing statements, the magistrate said the “prevalence of dial-a-dealer cocaine crime” in Sydney’s eastern suburbs is “at a higher level” around Bondi Beach and that police are looking for possible criminals.

However, he noted that Tregoning cooperated with police when he was arrested, telling them the cocaine was in the right pocket of his pants.

The magistrate told Tregoning to appear in court, saying: “It’s critical at this time when you’re going through a lot that you don’t try to self-medicate.”

He urged the cinematographer not to resort to alcohol, reminding him that it is “not a crutch” to rely on.

“Make sure that for the next 12 months you will continue to do what you are doing,” the magistrate said.

“Make sure that in terms of the treatment you have in place, they are your first port of call rather than alcohol.”

Tregoning received two criminal convictions.

He was also fined $550 after he was caught driving a car to a mechanic in Avalon, in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, in November without an interlock device.

Interlock devices are used to test the blood alcohol level of some DUI offenders.

A motorist must complete a breath test before being allowed to drive; if alcohol is detected, the vehicle will not start.

Asked if he was happy with the result off the pitch, Tregoning told Daily Mail Australia: “Yes, absolutely.”

It comes just weeks after his wife, sportswear mogul Claire, confirmed that she and Tregoning had quietly separated eight months earlier.

“He’s very friendly, we still love each other, we’re co-parents and he’s still a great friend,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“Things change and that’s what happened to us, but we’re getting through it with a lot of respect and mutual support.”

Rumors surfaced last November that the couple had quietly split after they deleted each other from Instagram and stopped posting love photos.

They spent most of their marriage renovating their family home in Avalon, on Sydney’s northern beaches, and raising their two children.

From relaxing family weekends to lavish trips, the businesswoman was constantly tagging her cinematographer husband on Instagram posts with their children while wearing PE Nation gear.

During interviews in 2020, the couple spoke about how they relied on each other for support during lockdown, with Claire adding that her husband traveled a lot for work so “both of us in lockdown has been amazing.”

In December of that year, she shared with her 19,000 followers a photo of herself and her husband passionately embracing as they lay in bed together during a holiday in Tasmania. with the title ‘Lover’.

On Father’s Day last year, Claire posted a picture of Timothy and his kids eating croissants together on the deck of their renovated $1.2 million ‘shack’, gushing about how he is a ‘lovely, chaotic, beautiful daddy’. for their ‘crazy puppies’.

‘The love you shower our crazy pups with is endless. His journey and growth as a father has been inspiring to watch. We love you,’ he wrote.

It was the last time it appeared on his feed.

Since then, Claire has taken vacations in Tasmania and Los Angeles, a ski trip to New Zealand and two jaunts to London, posting her escapades on Instagram, tagging friends and family each time.

Her husband, however, had been conspicuously absent from her diet.
