Michael Clarke video: Karl Stefanovic jokes about his ‘busted hammie’

Today host Karl Stefanovic delivered a thinly veiled jab at his partner Michael Clarke on Monday, days after footage of him intervening in the cricketer’s fiery brawl with girlfriend Jade Yarbrough went viral..

Stefanovic joked on air that he had broken his hammie, an apparent reference to the hamstring injury Clarke sustained in the Noosa altercation on January 10.

He made the comment after sportscaster Alex Cullen reported on Novak Djokovic’s torn hamstring at the Australian Open, which the Serbian tennis ace says he has been managing with “pills and hot cream”.

Back in the Today studio, Stefanovic leaned back in his chair while pretending to wince as his co-host Sarah Abo quipped, “We could have a hamstring injury.” [here] too.’

I can get some hot cream please? I just did the hammy”, Stefanovic moaned while smiling mischievously.

I don’t know how he did it either. He was sitting there and now he is standing up complaining of a hamstring injury,” Abo said.

Stefanovic joked that Abo “would not understand” her pain because she was not an “elite athlete” like him.

‘You can just pull a hammy by sitting down. Hot cream please! he exclaimed.

Clarke’s co-host Gerard Middleton couldn’t resist joking about the hamstring injury during the broadcast, commenting that the bruise on his ‘hammie’ was ‘two feet’ long.

‘I want to ask you, you showed us before that hamstring bruise, that’s amazing, man. You won’t be able to walk properly for weeks,” Middleton joked.

At the start of the broadcast, Clarke also told co-hosts Middleton and Laurie Daley that her injury was ‘on the mend’ as the trio talked about their summer vacation.

He shrugged off his injury and said, “Nah, it’s okay dude, he’s on the mend, I’m ready to go, I’m ready, game day, good to go, on the mend.”

Extraordinary footage emerged last Wednesday of a heated exchange between Clarke and his girlfriend while on holiday in Noosa.

In the video, which was filmed by a bystander on January 10 and later sold to The Daily Telegraph for a fee of $10,000, Yarbrough accused Clarke of cheating on her with her ex, fashion designer Pip Edwards, on December 17.

Others in the group, including Stefanovic, his wife Jasmine, Yarbrough’s sister, and famed accountant Anthony Bell, tried to defuse the fight.

Yarbrough and Clarke, who was limping in the footage after pulling a hamstring, have been issued fines for “public nuisance”.

Stefanovic has yet to make a statement on the matter, but was asked about the footage during an event at the Australian Open on Thursday.

‘You know what the answer is going to be,’ he replied.

A remorseful Clarke has since taken full responsibility for what happened.

I am absolutely heartbroken, I have put people I hold in the highest regard in this position. My actions in the lead up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable,” he said.

“I am devastated that by my actions I have brought women of class and integrity, and my peers, into this situation.”

Edwards also issued a statement the night the images were released.

‘This is not my circus. Once again, Michael in the true nature of him has not taken responsibility for his actions and I was blatantly lied to,” he told Daily Mail Australia.
