Kamala Leaves ‘Life’ Out of Declaration Rights During Abortion Comments

Kamala Harris conveniently omitted the right to ‘life’ portion of the Declaration of Independence during her remarks pushing through the administration’s new plan to address abortion rights.

The vice president attacked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis from the ground in Tallahassee on Thursday with comments announcing new nationwide protections for access to abortion pills and denounced the Sunshine State’s new abortion laws.

Harris was sent to Florida by the White House to commemorate what would have been the 50th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade, which was struck down by the Supreme Court in June.

“We’re here today because we collectively believe and know that America is a promise, it’s a promise of freedom,” Harris said during an 18-minute speech Sunday.

“Not for some, but for all,” he insisted. ‘A promise we made in the Declaration of Independence that each of us is endowed with the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.’

Vice President Kamala Harris said during remarks marking the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade that all Americans are promised “liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” but she did not mention the third right to “life.”

Prior to Harris' arrival in Tallahassee, Florida, a mural was installed Sunday reading

Ahead of Harris’s arrival in Tallahassee, Florida, a mural reading “how dare they” was installed Sunday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and the June Supreme Court ruling that struck down that landmark decision on abortion rights.

The vice president, however, did not directly quote the entire iconic part of the US Declaration, which reads: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that their Creator endowed them with a certain inalienable Rights, which among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’

It is no coincidence that Harris left out the right to ‘life’ in comments advocating for a woman’s right to decide whether to carry her baby to term.

The March for Life brought thousands of anti-abortion advocates to Washington, DC on Saturday with celebrations for the first rally since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The protesters carried signs promoting their status as part of the ‘post-Roe generation’.

President Joe Biden attacked Republicans and the conservative Supreme Court 6-3 early Sunday when he issued a presidential memorandum protecting access to the abortion pill.

Harris made the new directive official with his announcement in Tallahassee later in the afternoon.

In June, the Supreme Court struck down the landmark Roe v. Wade of 1973, rendering a ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that removed federal protections for abortion and returned rights to the states.

“Today, instead of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade, we are acknowledging that last year, the Supreme Court took away a constitutional right from the American people,” Biden wrote in a statement Sunday.

Harris, dressed in an all-green pantsuit, harshly criticized Florida during remarks from the Sunshine State capital for imposing a 15-week abortion ban with the sole exception of saving the mother's life.

Several states immediately enacted new laws following the June Supreme Court decision that restricted abortion rights, some states more radical than others.

In Florida, even before the Supreme Court decision, Governor DeSantis signed a bill making abortion illegal in the state after 15 weeks. The only exceptions are if the procedure is necessary to save the life of the pregnant woman or prevent serious injury to the fetus.

However, it does not allow exemptions in cases where the pregnancies were caused by rape, incest, or human trafficking.

Harris mentioned this new law during his remarks, drawing loud boos from the crowd gathered in the Florida capital.

“Here in Florida, health care providers face up to five years in prison simply for doing their job,” lamented the vice president. “And now the state has also targeted medical abortion, even threatening Florida pharmacists.”

“The government shouldn’t be telling people what to do with their own bodies,” Harris insisted.

Florida Republicans have often called out what they say is the federal government’s hypocrisy on the ‘my body, my choice’ issue.

While abortion advocates push for women’s ability to control whether or not they carry a pregnancy to term, they are also often the same people who push for mandatory COVID-19 vaccines or vaccine mandates as a condition of job.

Harris announced in his remarks the administration’s new plan to “ensure safe access to medical abortion.”

The presidential memo issued by Biden makes specific reference to the drug mifepristone, which is a pill used to induce a medical abortion or force a miscarriage. Combined with misoprostol, the drug is 97 percent effective during the first 63 days of pregnancy and can also be effective in the second trimester.

“Democrats proudly encourage barbaric policies to allow unrestricted abortions, including infanticide. That’s all everyone needs to know,’ the Florida Republican Party wrote in a statement about Harris’s upcoming comments.

The 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade has provoked a number of reactions from both sides of the abortion arguments.

Protesters at the March for Life in Washington, DC on Saturday marked the first time the rally had occurred in the post-Roe landscape. Thousands of pro-life protesters celebrated the Supreme Court decision.

Meanwhile, pro-abortion groups and activists criticized the decision, calling it a huge step backwards in the fight for women’s rights.

“As unpopular and dangerous as their agenda is, Republicans are racing against themselves to take away the freedoms of Americans, and they are not slowing down,” the National Democratic Party wrote in a 50th-anniversary statement.

The president, in his Sunday morning statement, again called on Congress to codify abortion protections into law, a feat now even more unlikely with the House’s Republican majority.

“Since the Supreme Court decision, Americans have, time and again, made their voices heard: Women should be able to make these deeply personal decisions without political interference,” Biden said.

“Yet Republicans in Congress and across the country continue to push to ban abortion nationwide, criminalize doctors and nurses, and make birth control more difficult to access. It is dangerous, extreme and out of character,” he added. I will continue to fight to protect a woman’s right to choose.

‘Congress should restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law; it’s the only way we can fully guarantee a woman’s right to choose in every state.’

One tactic Democrats are looking to employ now that states can restrict abortion rights seemingly unchecked is to make sure all women have access to the abortion pill.

‘Since the day of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, President Biden has stressed the need to protect access to mifepristone, a drug used in medical abortion that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for more than 20 years and represents the majority of all abortions in the United States,’ noted a White House fact sheet.

The Presidential Memorandum announced that the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) along with the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) will consider new guidance to support patients and providers, as well as pharmacies seeking to prescribe legally. or provide access to mifepristone.

This protection would apply to all women ‘no matter where they live’.

The second part of the memorandum is intended to ensure that those seeking the abortion pill can access it ‘free from threat or violence’.

“The President has long made it clear that people must have access to reproductive care without harassment, threats, or violence,” the White House fact sheet notes. “Pharmacies should not be treated differently.”
