Wynonna, who recently confirmed she would be performing a second leg of The Judds: The Final Tour, said she didn’t expect the shows to be as emotional as they were.

“This is a whole different level of depth, and I wasn’t expecting it,” he said. She knew it would be intense, but this is literally, ‘Oh, my Lord.’ This is me heartbroken being as open as I’ll probably ever be, and other people are responding to that in ways I didn’t expect.

He added that the intensity of the experience came in part from commiserating with fans who had experienced similar tragedies.

“I’ve had people literally come up to me and say, ‘My mom killed herself and I’m here, and I’m sorry for every word you say.'” she said. ‘It is intensely deep and personal. Either they lost their mother or something happened in their family, and this is almost a 12-step meeting. This is not just show business. It is helping a lot of people.

The Grammy-winning singer battled depression throughout her life. The illness worsened after the Judds stopped touring, leaving her unable to get off the couch for two years and seeking help from electroshock therapy.

Wynonna said she initially thought the shows would be more of a tribute to her mother, and was surprised to hear her fans sing along with the songs and pay tribute to her mother through the joy of a concert.

“I realized that these people are singing every word, and I mean it. It was so loud at times. I did not sing and I moved away from the microphone. I would literally step back and say, ‘Whoa’,’ she said.

‘And then he would let the fans sing and they sang real loud and sang every stinking word. And he blew my mind. It just took me to another level of existence. I felt suspended on stage. I really did. I felt like I was levitating off stage many nights. He’d walk offstage and be like, “I don’t know what just happened, but it was from another world.”

She described the experience, pointing to the lights on cell phones that people were waving instead of lighters, as “light therapy.”

I’m glad I showed up, because it has changed my life. It has changed my life forever,’ she said.

Wynonna said that even though she and her mom hadn’t had time to rehearse the show, Naomi was thrilled to be back on the road.

I was so excited, probably to the point where I had to say, “Mom, hey, I want to talk to you about something else.” Because she was the only thing she really talked about.

In addition to trying on clothes in preparation for the tour, Wynonna said that she and her mother had discussed set lists, which she found to be a fun experience.

‘There were times where I’d like to sing a song that had the word ‘sex’ in it, I was being funny, and she’d look at me like, ‘Okay.’ Do you know how moms are?

And there were times when I would look at her and say, “You are the queen of everything.” I called her that. And she definitely thought that there were times when she was right and that she would have to adapt to her way of thinking.

The mother and daughter duo were known to have a rocky relationship at times. Wynonna said there were some challenges between them preparing for the tour, but that she had learned to deal with them and be happy with who she was as her mother.

“I don’t know about you and your mom, but even ordering something off the menu is a challenge,” she said.

“Because she’s so prissy and I think of her as a diva queen, and she sits there with her hair perfectly coiffed, and I look at her like, ‘Mom, somebody messed it up and took off her wig and ran off with it.'”

“I think sometimes there were moments where I literally had to say, ‘Okay, this is your mother, and you can be right or you can be loved.'” So I’m going to let her be right and let that slide.’

Wynonna also opened up about how her mother’s death brought her closer to her sister Ashey, with whom she also had a contentious relationship in the past.

She said it was ‘one hundred billion, trillion, gazillion percent accurate’, the sisters had been brought together by death and told how they lived together on the same property.

Ashley and I are more connected than ever. We get together and talk about things we’ve never talked about before. And I’m finding that we have more in common than ever, even though we’ve been geographically separated for the most part.

“We’ve been apart since she was 14 and I was 18 and on tour. So you can imagine how much time we spend apart. And now, here we are, going to each other’s houses and talking about mom and stories and when we were little, and it makes me love her and feel closer to her.’

Ashley, Wynonna’s half-sister and Naomi’s youngest daughter, is an Emmy-nominated model and actress.

She also said that her best memories of her mother were when they would do high-profile events together and Naomi would get lost in her excitement about the day.

“My best memories came during the Super Bowl or the White House because my mom was out of control,” she said. I don’t even know how to explain it.

It’s like it got loose and we couldn’t find it. She was such a colorful work of art, character, and person that every time we did something like the White House, you’d think she’s the president of the fucking United States of America.

“She was out of control and I couldn’t control her. And I would laugh at her and let her go and stand back and watch her and enjoy her because it was literally like she just won the lottery, and there was nothing I could do to stop her.”
