Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan and Sade inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame

Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Sade and more have been voted into the 2023 Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Jeff Lynne, Teddy Riley, Glen Ballard and Liz Rose of the Electric Light Orchestra will also be honored at the induction ceremony on June 15 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Rap icon Snoop, known for hits like Drop It Like It’s Hot and Gin and Juice, follows in the footsteps of earlier hip-hop members Missy Elliott and Jay-Z by being recognized for their songwriting.

Estefan is known for the classics Rhythm Is Gonna Get You and Let’s Get Loud, while Nigerian-British artist Sade (born Helen Folasade Adu) is known for singles like Your Love Is King, Smooth Operator and By Your Side, along with she herself. All six of the band’s acclaimed albums.

Their most recent album was 2010’s Soldier Of Love.

ELO star Lynne penned timeless classics like Mr. Blue Sky, Evil Woman and Hold On Tight, and her Beatles-inspired band have been hailed for their ability to craft a hook-filled pop song.

Songwriters Hall of Fame President Nile Rodgers said in a statement: “The music industry doesn’t exist without songwriters putting out great songs first.” Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, and no merchandising.

“The 2023 list represents not only iconic songs, but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicities and genres, songwriters who have enriched our lives and, in their time, literally transformed the music and lives of billions of listeners around the world. the world”.

Teddy Riley is one of the architects of the New Jack Swing genre, and would come to collaborate with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

Newcomer Glen Ballard collaborated with Michael Jackson on Man In The Mirror, and co-wrote and produced Alanis Morrissette’s classic album Jagged Little Pill.

Lis Rose is a country music songwriter best known for her many collaborations with Taylor Swift.

The two won a Grammy Award for the song White Horse on Taylor’s second studio album, Fearless, and are again nominated for a Grammy at the upcoming 2023 ceremony for the full version of the song All Too Well, which debuted on the Red’s re-recording. (Taylor’s version).

Mariah Carey and Lil Nas X were among those recognized at the 2022 induction.

The first called for more women to be considered for induction.

She said at the ceremony: “I read that out of the total 439 inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, only 32 have been women, so far.”

And rapper Lil Nas X, 23, who was honored with the Hal David Starlight Award, which honors young songwriters whose work is making an impact in the music industry, called for more diversity at the awards.

“I think we have a long way to go in some places, but I feel like the world is definitely trying its best to change in a lot of ways,” he said.

Meanwhile, Snoop has just announced the rescheduled dates for his UK and Ireland tour.

The legendary star will kick off the arena tour at Belfast’s SSE Arena on March 14, followed by dates in Manchester, Glasgow, London, Dublin, Leeds and Birmingham.

Snoop will be joined by his bandmates and collaborators Warren G, Tha Dogg Pound, Obie Trice and D12.

Irish rap duo Versatile are also touring with icons of the West Coast scene.
