Why Michael Olise did not celebrate scoring stunning late free kick against Man United

Michael Olise left fans and players stunned after his muted celebration against Man United, but his former teammates have now revealed their reasons for doing so.

The Crystal Palace winger salvaged a point for his side in the Premier League meeting with the Red Devils after scoring a last-minute free kick at Selhurst Park.

Despite the incredible blow, Olise seemed less than impressed with his own effort, throwing in a subdued celebration, and now the reasons for doing so have been revealed.

His teammates ran over to congratulate him, as Olise seemed less than impressed with his efforts.

Olise’s former Reading teammate, defender Tom McIntyre, spoke to the athletic and lifted the cap of the end’s celebratory choice.

“We would say sometimes it’s a little weird because when I scored goals, sometimes I didn’t celebrate,” Morrison explained.

“We’d say, ‘Mike, did you just score an important goal and you’re walking back?’ What are you doing? Then he’d play two touches with the coach (Paunovic) in the gym, win a point on that, and he’d be screaming and celebrating, but one Saturday, he’d score a goal in front of the home end and just stay there.

The France Under-21 winger scored seven goals in three seasons at the Madejski Stadium before winning an £8.37m transfer to Palace in the summer of 2021.

The 21-year-old has registered two goals and four assists in the Premier League this year.

Tom McIntyre suggested that Olise liked to be ‘different and cool’ when celebrating

McIntyre, who has been at Reading his entire career, suggested the winger enjoys being ‘different and cool’.

“In the middle of last season, he unfollowed all of us on Instagram and only followed about 15 people,” the Reading defender said.

“There was no one from Reading, except maybe one or two of his closest companions, which we all found quite amusing.”

‘I know what it is, he loves rapper Lil Uzi Vert and there are a few other such rappers he likes. They unfollow everyone on his Instagram and I think he wants to be like them. That’s weird to me and some of the guys, but to him, that’s different and cool.

On the night, Bruno Fernandes had given the visitors the first-half lead with a well-placed shot before Olise struck back late in the match.

Her silent celebration left supporters baffled, as one fan said: “Olise is sick in the head, how do you not celebrate after scoring that?”

‘How can Olise not celebrate that goal? If that was me I’d skip the top jumping through the crowd…’ another said.

One wrote: “Great free kick from Olise but I have absolutely no time for someone to score a World Cup in stoppage time to equalize and seem angry about it.” You’re not too cool to celebrate, boy.

“I really don’t think Olise would celebrate if she scored the winning goal in a World Cup final for France,” said another.

Fans were quick to ask why the winger had held a silent celebration that night.

After the match, Red Devils legend Gary Neville tweeted to regret his former club’s decision only to have three men on the wall when Olise stepped in to take his stoppage-time free kick.

The late equalizer denied Erik ten Hag’s team second place in the Premier League table, with the Red Devils sitting third behind local rivals Manchester City on goal difference.

More importantly, United also gave up crucial ground in the title race against Arsenal, who remain eight points clear at the top of the league.
