Nick Carter was supported by family and friends before a benefit concert for his late younger brother Aaron Carter in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The Backstreet Boys star, 42, who recently wrote an emotional song for Aaron, was joined by his sister Angel Conrad, 35, who was Aaron’s twin, and their band member friend AJ McLean, 45, as well as singer Ryan Cabrera, 40.

Carter’s sister co-hosted the event, titled Songs for Tomorrow, along with NSYNC’s Lance Bass, 43, with proceeds benefiting On Our Sleeves, the movement for children’s mental health.

Nick wore a casual gray hoodie under a black leather jacket for the event honoring his brother, who was found dead in a bathtub of a drug overdose at his home in Lancaster, California on November 5, 2022. at 34 years old.

The As Long as You Love Me hitmaker paired the look with black jeans and matching sneakers.

Meanwhile, Angel wore a long gray sweater and black boots for the night.

Cabrera, who was one of the performers for the night, wore a green jacket over a black and white button-down shirt and black jeans.

The event, inspired by Aaron’s struggles with mental illness, was held at HEART, Lance’s West Hollywood nightlife venue.

A description of the concert stated: β€œAt a young age, Aaron began to display symptoms of mental illness. Unfortunately, as is common for many people experiencing mental health issues, Aaron did not receive the treatment that could have helped him, despite the tireless efforts of Angel and those who loved him.’

“Her life is a cautionary tale that inspired Angel to work with On Our Sleeves to raise awareness and help other families by giving them the opportunity to write a different story.”

The day before the event, Nick took to his Instagram to share a snap of himself, AJ, and Lance rehearsing.

Meanwhile, Angel shared a touching video montage of Aaron, complete with clips of him and Nick in their youth.

‘Aaron was a very funny, quirky, goofy person. Cheerful. What he lived for was to love and connect people,’ he said in the moving video.

In the clip, Nick was seen performing his song ‘Hurts to Love You,’ which he wrote for Aaron after his passing and which was released on January 11, with poignant lyrics including: ‘Cause it hurts to love you but I love you still/ Miss you with with all my heart, you know I always will.

The emotional song details his ‘rollercoaster relationship’ with his late brother, with the opening verse reading: ‘Sorry we’ve been through some wars together/ No one else can understand/ Weeks and many nightmares to remember/ But that was life. real. after.’

Nick goes on to say, “I always hoped your tomorrow/ It would be better than the days before/ I hoped you’d find your way forward/ To a place where you were happy in this world” before beginning to sing along.

Nick, who collapsed on stage at London’s O2 while performing with the Backstreet Boys less than 24 hours after his brother’s death, had a fractured relationship with Aaron.

Following Aaron’s passing, Nick posted several photos of the two of them together, writing, “My heart broke today.”

He continued, “Although my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never faded.”

The former child pop star previously accused Nick of trying to place him under a conservatorship, similar to the one granted to Britney Spears.

In 2019, Nick filed a restraining order against Aaron, alleging that he threatened to kill his pregnant wife and their unborn child.

That same year, Aaron revealed on ‘The Doctors’ that he was diagnosed with ‘multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression’, according to CNN.
