The son of trucking magnate Lindsay Fox has come to the rescue of a woman involved in a violent street fight outside an upscale French restaurant in Melbourne.

The fight took place around 8pm on Tuesday outside France-Soir, a popular hangout in the South Yarra neighbourhood.

The footage shows a woman trading blows with a man, while several others also trade blows.

The restaurant staff, frantic, try to intervene before Andrew Fox comes out of the restaurant and comes between the fighters.

He is then seen offering a handkerchief to a man who was being beaten as the ugly fight finally calms down.

The fight took place around 8pm Tuesday night directly outside France-Soir with Andrew Fox (in white), helping to break it up.

Police were called to the scene, but it is believed that everyone involved in the fight left before the police arrived.

Bystanders recording the violent altercation could be heard acknowledging Mr. Fox, who is a key figure in his family’s LinFox real estate empire.

Fox said afterwards that he did not want to be called a hero, but explained that he intervened after seeing the woman being attacked.

Mr. Fox went on to explain how the restaurant is his favorite and he wanted to support the staff who were stepping in.

‘France Soir is my favorite restaurant in the world and all the waiters are great people.

“I saw this madness and I saw a woman being beaten. I didn’t get invested in what it was about, but my pure role when I saw it was to go out there and try to figure it out. Somehow it worked out.

‘A woman should never be completely beaten. My father and mother tell me that I am a lover, not a fighter.

Police confirmed they arrived at the scene just before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday after reports of a fight on Toorak Rd.

A Victoria Police spokesman said members involved in the reported fight had dispersed by the time officers arrived.

Mr. Fox oversees his family’s real estate investments and airport business.

It is believed that he has a close personal relationship with the Victorian Prime Minister Dan Andrews.
