An accident involving nine trucks and 12 cars in Colorado caused a 160-mile stretch of I-70 to be closed.
The outage came Wednesday afternoon when the state was hit by a storm that brought strong winds and snow.
Colorado soldiers have estimated that the scene will not clear until Thursday morning. Drivers were advised not to take alternative roads around the closure due to “high winds and slippery roads”.
‘I 70 was shut down by a multi-vehicle accident from the air park to the Kansas line in both directions. Approximately nine semi trucks and 12 passenger vehicles involved,” the Colorado State Patrol wrote in a tweet.
‘No injuries have been reported so far. Ongoing situation. Expect a long shutdown. Avoid the area and try an alternate route.”

The Colorado State Patrol estimated that as many as 60 semi-trucks were stuck in a traffic jam after the accident.
Eastbound lanes were closed from E-470, about 15 miles east of Denver, to the Kansas border. The westbound lanes were closed between the same two points.
The accident occurred near the town of Byers. A photo from the scene showed a wrecked semi-truck on top of the passenger side of a car and the road covered in fresh snow.
So far there have been no injuries, the highway patrol said. They also pointed out that the closure had affected up to 60 semis.

The closure will take until morning to clear, Colorado soldiers estimated Wednesday afternoon.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said the lanes were closed due to near-zero visibility conditions.
‘The State Patrol tells us that 50-60 semi-trucks are stuck, waiting for these debris to be cleared and the road to be reopened. Might be a long wait,” CBS Colorado’s Jim Benchman tweeted.
