Cross between a Chinese Crested and a Pug competes to be named the ugliest dog in the UK

Beauty is the eye of the beholder, and although this pup is in the running to be named the UK’s ugliest dog, her loving owner wouldn’t have her any other way.

Peggy, a four-year-old Chinese crested pug mix, was adopted by Holly Middleton, from Leven, East Yorkshire, when she was just six months old, due to her ‘quirky’ appearance.

With tufts of hair on her ears and head, a nearly hairless body, and a long tongue sticking out of her mouth, Holly, 36, admitted to the BBC that his pup is like ‘Marmite’, and that people love or hate the dog.

She entered her pup in a competition organized by photo printing company Parrot Print to determine who is the unluckiest upward-looking pup in the country, and Peggy is one of seven dogs hoping to take home the title, along with the prize winning grooming session ad. Photoshoot.

While Peggy isn’t very attractive, Holly revealed that her unusual appearance doesn’t stop her from living life to the fullest.

“It’s always been like that, but it doesn’t stop him from doing anything, he can eat, he can drink, it goes in his mouth, it just doesn’t stay there,” he said.

Holly said she was drawn to Peggy when she found her on a shelter website when the pup was just six months old.

“I love anything unloved and unusual, so when I saw her on the adoption website I knew I wanted to take care of her,” she said.

Five-year-old British bulldog Winston George, from the West Midlands, is also a title contender.

Blue, a year-old French bulldog from Rochester, was also shortlisted for the finale, with the winner to be announced next month.

Jazz, a five-year-old Brusston from North Wales, is also hoping to take home the title of ugliest dog.

Meanwhile, Holly explained that although naming Peggy had been a challenge, because no name suited the pet, she and her grandmother eventually settled on ‘Peggy’.

They decided on the name in homage to their great-grandmother.

The dog lover is unconcerned with her pet’s unusual characteristics and admits that she sometimes forgets that Peggy doesn’t look like a typical canine.

He added that the pup has earned strange looks, panting and comments when they go for walks around the neighborhood.

Holly admitted that Peggy is like ‘Marmite’ and that people either love her or hate her when they see the pet.

The dog is almost hairless, save for a few tufts on her head, paws, and ears, and her tongue protrudes from her mouth.

Peggy’s unusual appearance has earned her a place on the shortlist to determine the ugliest dog in the UK.

And Holly even admitted that her own children weren’t pleased with Peggy’s appearance at first, as her oldest son was embarrassed by how the pup compares to his friend’s cute pets.

The children eventually changed their minds about the dog, which has become an important part of the family.

Other contenders looking to take the crown include Jazz, a five-year-old Brusston from North Wales, and Blue, a one-year-old French bulldog from Rochester.

Meanwhile, Bella, a six-year-old pug from Sheffield, and Marnie, a two-year-old French bulldog from Swindon, are also competing.

Matt Dahan, the founder of Parrot Print, the brand behind the competition, said he received hundreds of entries from across the country and narrowed it down to seven finalists, all hoping to win the prize and take home the title.

All contenders will cross their legs until the winner is announced next month.
