The ups and downs of life as a soccer coach! The wife of sacked Cardiff City’s Mark Hudson shares how he told his children he had been made boss, before posting a heartbreaking clip in which he revealed he had lost his job (but fess up, that’s football!)

The wife of former Cardiff City Manager Mark Hudson shared the heartbreaking moment in which he told his children he had lost his job, as well as the emotional scenes when he previously revealed he had been hired.

Marie-Louise Hudson posted a poignant clip on Instagram yesterday contrasting the moment Mark first told his sons that he had been made assistant manager at Cardiff and then when he told them he had to go.

Writing ‘we will take this journey together’ in her caption, Marie-Louise’s video showed Mark, 40, standing in front of his children telling them he was no longer the manager before his two sons stood up to hug him.

The father-of-three admitted “that’s football” as he tells his sons: “We’ll all go out to dinner tonight and then we’ll all pack up tomorrow,” leaving the town where his two sons were born.

The former Cardiff City manager was sacked four months after the club went nine games winless.

He spent five years as a player at the club and was appointed manager last year, but was sacked after the team drew with Wigan on Saturday, leaving the Bluebirds one place above the relegation zone and at risk of losing their place in the Championship.

The first half of the video shows Mark’s two sons cheering when they find out he’s been given a job in Cardiff, with one of them saying, “I’m going to tell all my friends.”

He hugs his father and says: ‘I knew you would make it. You are a legend.

The post then cuts to an emotional recording of Mark telling his children, “I’m not the manager anymore.”

He adds, “So we’ll go out to dinner tonight and then we’ll all pack up tomorrow and go home together,” as the two sons embrace him in a group hug.

The video ends with Mark saying, ‘That’s a good thing, yeah? Don’t worry, that’s football.

Marie-Louise wrote alongside the video: “I’ve debated whether or not to post this video, it’s personal, it’s raw, it’s an up and down.”

“It’s so easy to just post the high points, the perfect parts of your life on social media, but that’s not real life. It’s also a side of soccer (unless you’re in the soccer world) that you’ll never see.

‘Mark’s chapter in Cardiff is over and we are devastated. This video shows the moment Mark was offered a position in Cardiff and the opportunity that he was.

“A chance to return to the place we call home (and will always call home) and the place where we hold so many precious memories, a place where we have friends who are family, the city where our children were born, the place where we were born peace after tragedy

‘Some may ask why I recorded the last video, but I wanted to record it for the children, for Mark, to show them when they are older and also to show how much this opportunity meant to us as a family.

Soccer can test you to your limits, test your relationship, take you away from your family, but as always, we will take this journey together.

“We will always be Mark’s number one supporter and we are so proud of all he has accomplished so far. As Mark said: “This is football.”

‘It’s a roller coaster and one we’ll be riding for years to come. Thank you to everyone who has supported us.’

The club said earlier in a statement: ‘Cardiff City Football Club have relieved Mark Hudson of his duties as first team manager.

‘The board of directors would like to place on record their appreciation to Mark for all his work as a player, coach and manager while with the Bluebirds. We wish Mark all the best of luck for the future.’
