A 14-year-old Dallas girl is charged with murder after shooting and killing an 11-year-old boy while he was aiming at another girl he was fighting with in a parking lot.
- Police were called to an apartment complex in the Cedar Crest district of Dallas at 2 p.m. Sunday following a shooting.
- A 14-year-old girl was arguing with another girl at the Southern Oaks Apartments and “retrieved a gun” and shot the other girl.
- He missed and instead struck 11-year-old D’evan McFall, who died of his injuries on the way to hospital.
- The 14-year-old has been charged with murder and is being held at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center.
A 14-year-old Texas girl has been charged with murder after fatally shooting an 11-year-old boy with a stray bullet during a fight with another girl.
Police were called to the Cedar Crest area of Dallas around 2 p.m. Sunday to report a shooting at the Southern Oaks apartments.
They learned that two girls were fighting in the parking lot and one of them, a 14-year-old girl, “retrieved a handgun and fired in the direction of the woman she was fighting with,” said Sgt. Warren Mitchell of the New York City Police Department. Dallas.
He missed and shot D’evan McFall instead. He was taken to the hospital, but died from his injuries.
D’evan McFall, 11, was fatally shot by a 14-year-old girl Sunday at a Dallas housing complex amid an argument between two girls.
Dallas police said the incident was “a fight between two minors that led to a deadly outcome.”
Sgt. Warren Mitchell of the Dallas Police Department (pictured) called it a “horrific incident.”
The 14-year-old ran away to a neighboring housing complex, but was seen running away and was arrested. ABC News reported, and has been charged.
She is currently being held at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center. Police did not say if she lived in the housing complex and where she got the gun.
“This is a horrible incident,” Mitchell said. He said homicide detectives obtained the murder weapon and were speaking with witnesses.
He said they did not suspect gang activity, but that it was “a dispute between two minors that led to a deadly outcome.”
Dallas police combing the scene of Sunday’s shooting
Dallas police were called to the apartment complex in the Cedar Crest district, south of downtown, Sunday afternoon.
The death comes a week after a six-year-old boy in Newport News, Virginia, took a gun from home, brought it to school and shot his teacher.
Abigail Zwerner, 25, was shot in the chest by the boy. Her injuries were initially described as life-threatening, but she is now stable.
