Tottenham is facing an investigation by the FA and police after Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was kicked by a supporter at the end of a gripping derby in north London.

Richarlison could also find himself in trouble for shoving Ramsdale in the face after Arsenal’s 2-0 win ended the need to split the two teams.

Tempers ran high after Ramsdale taunted the full-time Tottenham supporters, kissing their crest and celebrating passionately near the South Stand.

Then, as the goalkeeper went to collect his drinks bottle, a fan climbed onto the pitch and kicked the England international in the back before walking away.

That sparked a fight, with Mikel Arteta having to drag both Ramsdale and Granit Xhaka.

Tottenham vowed to ban the stadiums and “the strongest possible action” after studying security camera footage to identify the attacker.

“We are appalled by the behavior of a fan who attempted to attack Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale late in today’s match. Violence in any form has no place in football.

“The club reviewed CCTV footage to identify the fan and will work with the Metropolitan Police, Arsenal and Aaron Ramsdale to take the strongest possible action, including an immediate ban from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”

The FA promised strong action in conjunction with the police. Their statement read: “We strongly condemn the incident involving a bystander following today’s Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

Ramsdale, who had moved away from the Tottenham striker, made his way towards the goal to collect his water bottle.

Richarlison was still yelling at the Arsenal goalkeeper when a fan decided to take matters into his own hands by kicking Ramsdale.

“This is totally unacceptable behavior and we will work together with the police, the relevant authorities and the clubs to ensure that appropriate action is taken.”

In 2019, a Birmingham City fan was jailed for punching Jack Grealish, while last year a Leicester fan was sentenced to four months in youth custody for punching three Nottingham Forest players during an FA Cup match.

Ramsdale explained what happened after the game: ‘The Spurs fans gave me something throughout the game. I was returning something. The people I gave it to greeted it in a sporty way, but a fan tried to give me a little (kick),” he said.

‘It’s a shame as it’s just a football match at the end of the day. Both sets of players tried to take me, but luckily nothing too drastic happened. It is a bitter taste.

Spurs defender Eric Dier called the incident ‘unacceptable’, while manager Antonio Conte said: ‘If this kind of situation happened, it’s not good, it’s not positive. I think that at all times we have to show respect, if we want respect we have to show respect. I honestly didn’t see it, but if it happened I sure didn’t like it.

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arteta has vowed to ‘deal’ with the attack but refused to let it dampen Arsenal’s celebrations.

‘There’s nothing we can do now. I don’t want that to take away 0.0001% of the enjoyment and satisfaction that we have right now,’ she said.

The incident was also condemned by the PFA, which called for more protection for the stars: “Violence towards players is completely unacceptable. These types of incidents happen far too often,” the statement from him read.

‘Gamers have the right to be safe in their workplace. When a player is attacked, we expect that the laws and regulations in place to protect players are applied correctly.

“As a players union, we treat this as a priority issue. We will continue to work with the authorities to demand that players and staff are better protected in their workplace.”
