Lady Cutler ferry with 210 passengers on board crashes into Central Pier at Docklands, Melbourne

A large ferry packed with more than 200 shell-shocked passengers has crashed into a popular pier with a pregnant woman among the injured.

The Lady Cutler ship was trying to dock at Central Pier in Melbourne’s Docklands when it crashed into a concrete wall around 6pm on Saturday.

Dozens of police and paramedics came to the place where they remained for at least an hour talking and assessing the large crowd.

The 210 passengers on board belonged to a group from the local Somali community, as witnesses to the “terrifying ordeal” recalled.

It is understood that a pregnant woman was among several injured after hitting her head and suffering a concussion as a result.

“Many people broke their teeth and someone was pregnant and got hurt,” a shaken passenger told Nine News.

“A lot of people are just hurt.”

The occupied compound was packed with families who watched the accident unfold.

“We saw the boat coming pretty fast and we see it’s about to dock and we thought there was no way it would save it even if you put it in reverse,” a group of young onlookers told Seven News.

A shocked passenger revealed that some of the 220 on board were injured, including a pregnant woman.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the incident was a WorkSafe Victoria matter.

Ambulance Victoria has not yet provided details on the injured.

Over 100 years old, Central Pier is a busy precinct with a nearby pub, bars, restaurants and event venues.

Emergency services went to the Central Pier to assess and treat the shocked passengers.
