Backing won’t change Frank Lampard… Everton boss admits the pressure IS NOT off despite support from owner Farhad Moshiri as his team prepare for the Southampton Test having lost nine of their last 12 games

  • Frank Lampard has insisted that the pressure has not abated for his Everton side to perform.
  • The Toffees boss was publicly endorsed by club owner Farhad Moshiri earlier in the week.
  • Everton have lost nine of their last 12 games and face Southampton on Saturday.

Frank Lampard is taking nothing for granted about his future as he prepares for Everton’s biggest game of the season.

Farhad Moshiri, the club’s main shareholder, publicly endorsed Lampard this week, pledging to support him and Kevin Thelwell, the club’s director of football. The Iranian billionaire, however, insisted that the results must improve.

Everton have lost nine of their last 12 games but a win against Southampton could radically alter their position and Lampard, who has spoken privately with both Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright in recent days, knows that the responsibility of producing falls on him.

Asked if the pressure had gone after Moshiri’s statement, Lampard said: ‘No. It’s my job to get on with things. I’m not taking the statement lightly at all, but genuinely, I’ve been in this game a long time.

‘I left Chelsea after beating Luton in the FA Cup and while preparing for the next game. It’s the job. I don’t get carried away when it’s the other way around. I don’t win a game or two and wait for a new contract. You just have to work.

Everton have yet to sign in the January window, but face some serious competition to bring in a striker. They wanted to sign Georgino Rutter, who is moving to Leeds for £35m, and Kevin Schade, who has joined Brentford, but they missed out on both.

‘I think we can do better and I think we should have gotten more points in different areas so far.

“So we have to take that one ourselves, in terms of as long as we have the team here, I can’t be thinking ‘why not that one? I want that one!” – Until they come in, then you work with the equipment we have now.
