A man has pulled a cruel prank on grocery shoppers after posing as a Woolworths staff member and announcing a deal that was too good to be true.

In a video uploaded to TikTok, the man could be seen pacing the aisle of the supermarket before grabbing the microphone of the intercom system and calling for the attention of all customers.

‘The refrigeration system is temporarily out, so for the next two minutes, everything in aisle 15 is now free. Thank you,’ she said.

The prank fooled some shoppers with a vision that showed them running into the freezer aisle to open the doors to grab the products and run to the checkout.

A man is even seen stacking ice cream tubs in his arms as his son stands over him.

The men performing the prank then laughed as customers rushed to grab their frozen treats.

The person who uploaded the video called the man a “direct threat” and the footage was viewed more than 700,000 times.

The comments section was divided as to whether the prank was funny or just cruel.

‘The problem is the hardworking people who have to put it back together,’ commented one person.

‘Wild no doubt,’ said a second.

“People thought that was the sad part,” wrote a third.

While others said that he was a ‘legend’ and a ‘threat’.

A Woolworths spokesman said its buyers would not be fooled by the cruel joke.

“Our customers are a smart bunch and they would pick up on this,” the spokesperson said.
