“Northwestern strongly supports members of our community who raise concerns and encourages anyone to report those concerns to the University.”

The school said in a statement Wednesday that it “immediately” hired attorney Maggie Hickey of the ArentFox Schiff law firm to lead the investigation after it learned of the alleged hazing after last season. The school said Hickey will likely interview players, coaches and staff members.

‘Millisecond. Hickey has extensive experience investigating complaints and has the full cooperation of the University and the athletic department,” the statement continued.

‘Millisecond. Hickey will conduct her investigation independently, but the University hopes that Ms. Hickey’s exploration will include interviews with players, coaches and staff. The purpose of Ms. Hickey’s investigation is to find the underlying truth of the allegations, including the extent of any potential hazing activity or harmful culture.

Northwestern is coached by former player Pat Fitzgerald, 1995 National Defensive Player of the Year (Sports Illustrated) and a two-time consensus All-American.

Fitzgerald has been the Wildcats’ head coach since 2006, compiling a 110-101 record in 17 seasons.

The Wildcats went 1-11 (1-8 Big Ten) in 2022.
